I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving weekend! This beautiful weather has made it more evident than ever just how incredible of a place we all live! I attended the cranberry festival this weekend which led me to remember how grateful I am to live in a safe, beautiful, fun part of our world not to mention grateful for the 30+ vendors and dozens of volunteers that made it happen. I had such a blast there with the family and some friends.
A lot has happened in the past 2 years. As we all know, so many folks made dramatic changes to their jobs, homes and lifestyles but in the coming year we are all excited for a new reality. With real estate speculating, red hot markets and price instability in the rear view window, there is no better time to make an adjustment to our living situations. The price jump for move up buyers is getting smaller and more attractive while down-sizers might also find a move attractive to exit a larger than needed mortgage payment or to cash in and invest in the very mortgages you are leaving behind!
Yes, payments are very high right now and as we saw in July 2007 leading up to the Global Financial Crisis, rates peaked at 4.5% (currently at 3.25%), remained there until November 2007 (only 4 months) and then slowly fell down to almost 0% over the next 2 years as the country worked on a recovery. This potential period of slowly falling rates is such an exciting time and I recommend preparing yourself for it! I'll be keeping an eye on the October 20th CPI inflation Data print as well as the October 26th Bank of Canada rate announcement to see where things are headed going into winter. All of this money talk is somewhat important but just like this beautiful weather is reminding us, don't forget that your home is where you live and it should be a place to find rest and shelter and if possible, beauty. Keep your eyes on the prize!
