A forward-thinking shift: How St. Anthony Middle School is moving to a proficiency-based grading model
Last week, the link to this article was not working, so we're publishing it again. We believe this is incredibly important work that directly impacts your student's learning.  With a shift to a proficiency-based grading model, we can better assess what our students are learning and to what depth. This is a huge step for our teachers and students.

We are excited to see how this new system improves teaching and learning, starting at SAMS!

School Board Brief 📒
The board recently discussed the financial constraints that school districts navigate at their Oct. 11 meeting. Superintendent Corneille provided the board with a history of school funding, specific to SANB and the State of Minnesota (see Future Needs & Budget Constraints for the full memorandum).

Our district has been fortunate to have leaders in finance who have been able to navigate complex and nuanced school finance and have kept SANB strong and healthy despite a continued lack of financial certainty.

Unfortunately, and despite federal investment of one-time money during the pandemic, there remains a historic and deep underfunding of public schools (read report on pg. 274).

Just how are Minnesota school's funded? We break it down for you in this short video

At the Oct. 18 meeting, the School Board will hear reports on & discuss:

  1. Operational Plan Update: Teaching & Learning, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
  2. 2021-2022 Pre-Audit Budget & 2022-2023 June-September Budget
  3. Policies 404 - Employment Background Checks; 416 - Drug and Alcohol Testing and 418 - Drug Free Workplace / Drug Free School
