Meet 5 Phenomenal Dance and Theatre Artists
Our Meet the Artist series highlights amazing and talented performing arts professionals from diverse backgrounds. Over the past 4 months, we shared profiles featuring a few of the phenomenal dance and theatre artists participating in Gathering Knowledge, Sharing Voices: Touring in the New Normal—a learning community for IBPOC dance and theatre artists.
We invite you to watch their interviews as they share their wisdom, their projects, and their passion with the performing arts community, and to remember that starting a relationship with an artist can begin with an invitation to lead a workshop, sit on a panel, or collaborate with a local artist.

Program Updates from the ArtsEngage Learning Community
Each artist-presenter pair will work with their ‘Creative Friend’ or mentor to explore particular challenges or ideas and have productive detailed discussions. This year’s mentors are Ange Loft, Ruben “Beny” Esguerra, Fanny Martin, and Krista Dalby.
Participants will take part in core group sessions, as well as Spotlight Sessions. This year’s spotlight sessions are open to anyone interested in learning more about community engagement. Webinars will be taking place on:

Upcoming Webinar: Grant Applications with Playwrights Guild Canada and The Canada Council for the Arts
Playwrights Guild Canada is hosting a free information session and Q&A with Canada Council for the Arts focusing on grant applications. Matthew Tiffin, Program Officer at the Canada Council’s Explore and Create program, will teach attendees how to create an artist profile on the Council’s portal, what types of grants are available, what to expect during the application process, and how to put your best foot forward. The information session will be taking place on November 10th, 2022 at 1:30 p.m.

Resilient Communities Fund Grant Applications are Open
Non-profit organizations and registered charities are invited to apply for The Resilient Communities Fund grant provided by Ontario Trillium Foundation. Applicants can apply for a minimum of $10,000 and up to $200,000 to support projects that help rebuild an organization’s capacity, enhance their resiliency, and meet the changing needs of their communities. The next round of applications opens on November 9th, 2022 and closes on December 7th, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.

ACCA Is Accepting Applications for the Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Initiative
The ACCA Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Initiative will provide assistance to inspire, rebuild, and renew the professional capacity of the performing arts sector. The program will partner experienced mentors and mentees to create 24 mentorship pairings that help each other “rebuild better” through focused training and valuable knowledge transfer over a four-month period. Applications can be submitted for individuals and mentor/mentee pairs, and will be accepted on a first come rolling basis until November 11th, 2022.

Upcoming Webinar - Visitor Visas and International Artists: Delay Issues
This webinar, hosted by CAPACOA in conjunction with the 20th CINARS Biennale, will focus on creating a dialogue around visitor visa delays and related artist mobility issues experienced by international artists performing in Canada. Guests will have the opportunity to share their experiences and tips during an open facilitated group discussion. French-English simultaneous interpretation will be available for this webinar. Register for Balancing Act Canada’s Conference of Care
Join Balancing Act in Toronto for a one-day conference to explore multiple facets of care in the performing arts. This in-person conference aims to care for caregivers, offering artistic and panel presentations, highlights from the policy models developed through the pilots of the ‘21-22 Level UP! Strategy Partners, restorative sessions, childcare by The SummerHill Club, programming for young people by Theatre Direct’s Creation Warehouse, a quiet room, and good food. Caregivers and dependents are invited to participate in this conference on Friday, November 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Eastminster Church.

CITT/ICTS Launches the In-house Assistantship Program
CITT/ICTS is launching the In-House Assistantship Program with support from the Canadian Heritage’s Resilience Fund (CPAWRF). This exciting new program will fund individual, self-created short-term paid assistantships in which independent or self-employed professional arts workers from across Canada seeking to change directions or advance in their careers in production and technical theatre will be able to create their own training program to shadow a more senior production professional within a host theatre organization, venue or production in Canada. Applicants can apply for a funding package of up to $8,000. The application portal for the IHAP program is open, and the deadline for the first round of applications is November 18th, 2022.

Apply for Financial Support with Arts Reactivation
 The AFC is accepting applications for their Arts Reactivation program, with generous funding and support from the Government of Canada, providing direct financial assistance to independent and self-employed workers in the live performance sector experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and who require financial support to maintain or regain work in the sector. Eligible applicants will receive a one-time relief payment of up to $2,500 for assistance with basic living expenses, expenses that will help you get back to work, and additional costs incurred during the pandemic caused by financial instability. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and financial support is distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.

Applications Are Open for NIFF 2023
 Nogojiwanong Indigenous Fringe Festival is currently accepting applications for their June festival. Applicants have an equal chance to come and play in the festival, as successful applicants will be selected via a lottery process. NIFF will also host a series of free online workshops ranging from project development to tech to publicity. Applications to join a group of great artists, community and arts workers at this magical event are open until January 10, 2023.
