The World Refugee & Migration Council's new report on the global response to forced displacement, A Renewed Call to Action, finds political will in short supply, with dangerous backsliding by governments, increasing xenophobia and buck-passing of responsibility.
During the three short years following the Council’s landmark report A Call to Action: Transforming the Global Refugee System, an additional 30 million people have been forcibly displaced within and across borders to exceed 100 million worldwide – not including the millions of migrants forced to move by worsening economic conditions, famine, corruption, police brutality, and climate change.
The next UN Global Refugee Forum will take place only in late 2023, but the need for real action to galvanize political will is now. A Renewed Call to Action urges governments, civil society, and the world’s leading foundations to pick up the mantle and #ResetTheResponse to global displacement.
