IS Classes:
HIST1401: History of the Italian Mediterranean: Una Faccia, Una Razza (Summer Abroad Course)
HIST1716: Geographies of Imperialism: History of Colonization
HIST4123: Gender, Sexuality, and Power in the Ottoman and British Empires

Recent Publications: The Late Ottoman Empire and Egypt: Hybridity, Law and Gender. Routledge, 2018.

Exciting Aspect of the ISP: "I studied international affairs as an undergraduate and my study abroad experience, language acquisition, and global perspective formed me personally and professionally. I am so happy to be a part of this program at Boston College!"

On her interests in gender and landscapes: "While researching in Egypt, I acquired a set of newspapers printed by the nineteenth-century Italian community. In the past couple of years, I decided to delve into those newspapers to explore the gendered language deployed to feminize and "tame" the Egyptian landscape when writing about agriculture and gardens. The great environmental historian, John McNeill, at Georgetown was one of my advisors so I have been inspired by his work over the years--and my own love of trees and gardening. I currently have an Undergraduate Research Fellow working on this project with me."

Impactful Memory from Abroad: "I have lots of memories while researching across the world--Egypt, Italy, the UK, Sri Lanka, and Turkey---but it would not have been the same without my family. I include a photo here of researching in St Catherine's Cathedral in Alexandria with my son, Lorenzo, who is now a senior at Boston College! Just this summer, I received a dean's study abroad research grant for archival work in Italy after teaching a BC study abroad course in Venice that counts for History and Cultural Diversity core. I will be teaching the course again in June 2023!"

Music of the Moment: Lebanese Blond by Thievery Corporation, Gli Ostacoli del Cuore by Elisa, and Enta Omri by Um Kulthum.
