Implementing the dignity of risk with adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities who use alcohol and drugs: Prevention, care management and treatment

Presenter: Elspeth Slayter, PhD
Special Guest: Marc L. Copersino, PhD

Goal: Orientation to working with people with intellectual developmental disorder (I/DD) and the social context of substance use
  1. Explore prevalence & risk factors
  2. Manage substance use (SU) in a way that respects self-determination, dignity of risk
  3. Learn current evidence-informed prevention, case management & treatment approaches

About the START National Online Training Series
The START National Online Training Series is designed to build capacity of MH/IDD professionals by providing innovative, evidence-based online training to START teams and their community partners. Once a month, from September to April, a pre-recorded training video is released along with a comprehensive review guide and access to a live online group discussion/Q&A facilitated by National Center for START Services leadership members. UNH CEUs are available for the pre-recorded session at no cost.
