New Exhibitions in Gallery and Atrium
Rodney Bode is an American painter and sculptor whose life and art have remained outside the boundaries of culture. Born in 1941, and having lived most of his adult life in rural Idaho and South Dakota, Bode is an outsider artist whose vast collection of paintings and sculpture were only recently discovered
after his institutionalization in the South Dakota state psychiatric hospital where he is being treated for schizoaffective disorder and vascular dementia.

The label ‘Outsider Art’ created by Jean Dubuffet in the 1940s, certainly describes Rod Bode’s prolific collections of paintings and sculpture. Created in the sparse rural areas in Idaho and the plains of western South Dakota, unseen by the public, Bode’s “self-taught” creations were certainly “produced beyond the boundaries of the mainstream art world.”

Bode will be on display in the Atrium as well as the newly designed temporary exhibit space. The opening reception on Friday, October 21 will include the reveal of Bode’s documentary. This documentary will then be available to view along with his work for the duration of the exhibition run.

Mindfulness Painting

We focus on the details of the paint mixing together, how the brush strokes feel, the movement of our hands and arms as we hold the brush and move it across the page. This is a fun way to create an abstract painting that helps people learn to relax, breathe, and see the finer details of life.

Meet ArtistsDRIVEN! October workshops’ artist, BRIAN FINN
Free Workshops for High School Students
Brian is an artist creating and living in Omaha, Nebraska. Beginning his art career in his late 20s, Finn discovered he had a natural gift for assemblage illustration. Art became the reflection of his inner emotions that just words were not sufficient enough for. The combination of his critters and his bold color usage, Brian’s illustrations quickly grab a viewer’s eye.

Brian Finn’s workshop, “Assemblage Illustration: Morphing Unlikely Objects”, will begin stretching the minds of ArtistsDRIVEN! students as he introduces how to create unique critters made up of a combination of unlikely objects.

‘Fork Fest is Saturday, October 15 |10 am - 11pm
‘Fork Fest is coming up fast and it’s shaping up to be a day full of art, music, food and activities. Starting at 10 am we will have art vendors, activities and live music. The afternoon will bring the Food Truck Rumble with new and returning trucks providing delicious samples to enjoy and guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite.

This year we have the privilege of sharing handcrafted items and artwork from over 30 art vendors. These vendors will have everything from knitted items, guitars 2d and digital art and more. There will also be a variety of local bands and musicians to delight throughout the day.

We will be ready for the kickoff of the Nebraska vs. Purdue Football Game with a large screen so fans won’t have to miss the action. Watch from the beer garden offering domestics and Nebraska Craft Beers or enjoy the fall art activities throughout the park without missing a play.

If you or someone you know would like to volunteer, we are looking for people to join us throughout the day. We have many stations including Food Truck Rumble tickets, tshirt sales, craft/activity station and beer & ticket sales. Contact us to sign-up.
