Vale Dr Beck

Born September 24th 1947. Passed away September 9th 2022.

With sadness we were informed that Michael had passed away on September 9th 2022, almost 75 years of age. Michael had a broad scientific background in medicine, biochemistry and human genetics and was participating as a highly appreciated partner in the EU projects EURA-MAN, HUE-MAN and ALPHA-MAN.

In these projects, all aspects of the lysosomal storage disease Alpha-Mannosidosis were discovered, including the protein structure, gene, aa sequence, mutations, and the development of enzyme replacement therapy based on knock-out mice and, later on, clinical trials.

This ultimately led to therapy with Lamzede in humans from March 23rd 2018 which gives hope to children with this cruel disease.

We had the pleasure of seeing Michael at the University of Tromsø, Norway on several occasions, as well as at our biannual project meetings through fourteen years.

We express our deepest sympathies to Michael’s family during this difficult time.
