Diversity In Dentistry Mentorships, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to strengthen the diversity pathway from middle school to dental school through mentoring, educational and hands-on programming, and scholarships to youth and pre-dental students from African-American/Black, Latinx, and Native American backgrounds.
We are proud to announce two of our Board Members, Dr. Edmond Hewlett and Dr. Laila Hishaw, with co-author, Dr. Erin Lobo-Marwah, were published in the September Special Issue of the Journal of Dental Education on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.  Click on the image to read their paper, Dental school pathway programs: Best practices for increasing workforce diversity.
Join us at our 2nd Annual Diversify Dentistry Youth Summit!  This year we will be hosted by ATSU-ASDOH (Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health) in partnership with ATSU Dreamline Pathways™ on Friday, October 28, 2022.  We are so grateful for our Enamel Level Sponsors; the African American Legacy Fund held at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona and Delta Dental of Arizona.  Dentin Level Sponsors; Benco Family Foundation and the American Dental Education Association.  Last but not least, there wouldn't be a Youth Summit without transportation of our middle and high school students from Tucson Unified School District's African American Student Services, funded by TUSD's Career & Technical Education.

Would you like to sponsor? Please contact us at info@diversityindentistry.org to be included in our Mentorship Handbook that will be sent to our mentor dentists and mentees across the country!

Congratulations to DID Mentors, Dr. Evan J. Fry, DMD & Dr. Laila Hishaw, who were selected to present at SmileCon 2022!  ‘Speakers on the Rise’ provides a platform for “rising stars” on the dental speaker track to present on emerging topics in dentistry.

Dr. Hishaw will present “Elevating Dentistry Through Mentorship," Oct. 14, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. She will discuss how a diverse dental workforce can increase access to care and improve oral health outcomes, explore ways mentorship can be a tool for increasing enrollment of historically underrepresented minority students in dental school, and provide action steps that mentors can use to connect with their mentees.
Dr. Fry will present “Sustainability in Dentistry: Good for the Planet and Your Practice,” on Oct. 14, from 10-11 a.m. He will describe key sustainability issues in dentistry, provide an overview of public perception of sustainable business practices and corporate responsibility and cover how to implement procedures to improve a practice’s carbon footprint and bottom line.
