New Beginnings at Travis Park Church

October Leadership Board Update by Beth Smith

The butterfly has long been a favorite symbol in my family representing new beginnings, hope and the promise of Christ’s love. Sometimes a new beginning was not of my choosing, but along the path I realized the change was as it should be. I write today on behalf of the Travis Park Church Leadership Board to tell you about “New Beginnings” that are happening in our church home. Some of the New Beginnings are revival of past events or programs, while others are brand new endeavors.

A new endeavor is the quarterly Town Hall Meetings, held on the fifth Sunday of the month, with the first meeting on October 30 at 11 am. The purpose of the meeting is to gather in person and ask questions about anything on your mind related to Travis Park Church. Leadership Board will have specific information that we consider of interest like the status of the mission of the church; how the mission is coming alive; Travis Park Church finances; how we need you; the status of our building; and Travis Park Church’s Guiding Principles established by the Leadership Board. Consider the Town Hall Meeting to be a family meeting to catch up with one another! I hope you plan to attend.

Reconciling Ministries Network History of Travis Park Church
2005
With the leadership of Fred Campbell and others, Travis Park United Methodist Church’s Sine Nomine Adult Sunday School Class became the first official reconciling group in South Central Texas.

2008
A church conference was called for the purpose of adopting a resolution to become an official Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN) congregation. The vote overwhelmingly was in favor of the resolution and Travis Park United Methodist Church became the second official Reconciling Ministries Network congregation within the Southwest Texas Annual Conference.

Homebound Communion Launch

Last Sunday was World Communion Sunday. Special thanks goes to Shirley Watkins, Janette Grant, Rev. Dr. Edie DeVilbiss, and Rev. George Bradley for working together so quickly to launch our Homebound Communion ministry on the same day! Two of our homebound church members received communion, and almost all were reached by phone last week. We have three communion kits that will be placed on the Community Table during worship on Sunday and consecrated during communion. The team will bring those kits - by appointment - one Sunday per month to those that need it.

If you are interested in joining this ministry that serves communion once a month to those that physically cannot attend church, please email Shirley Watkins.

Creativity at work!

The church is alive with new creations!

Next time you visit the church, take a look around you! Thank you to Janette for continuing our rainbow pumpkin tradition, and to Bobby and Leroy Kroll for updating our bulletin boards in McNees Hall! Thank you for helping us to keep things clean and beautiful...

Donation & Volunteer Update

Below is a list of what we currently need:

HALLOWEEN NEEDS
We need LOTS of candy this year! Not only will we have a Children's Halloween Party, but we will also hand out candy and candy alternatives at the PRIDE Families 9th Annual Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat. We are also looking for volunteers to help with decorating and activities. Please email Juliette to learn more.

FAMILY LIFE NEEDS
Please email Shiloh Morris for more information about Family Life opportunities to volunteer, including nursery workers, Pray Ground stewards, and Youth mentors. If you have already submitted your interest, make sure to complete your SAFE GATHERINGS training!

ELECTRONIC NEEDS
Do you have a retired laptop or iPad that still has some life left in it? The office staff would love to put these to good use for data entry needs, a computer for Janette to learn how to use, check-in stations on Sunday mornings, and taking to community events. Let us know!
Do you have questions about any of the groups and events mentioned? Are we missing something? Please email us as info@travispark.org
