Presbytery meeting Oct. 25

The Fall Stated Presbytery Meeting will be held Tuesday, October 25, at First Presbyterian Church of Quincy. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. CDT/10 a.m. EDT, with registration starting an hour ahead. The meeting will include an educational time presented by the Committee on Representation (CR) in conjunction with the Committee on Nominations (CN). Watch for meeting materials and addititonal information next week.


Requests and reminders

Attention, pastors: Your congregation-approved Terms of Call should have been sent in to the Committee on Ministry c/o the Presbytery Office early in the year (They generally are due by March 1 of each year). So far, fewer than 10 have been received. COM asks that you send them before the October 25 Presbytery meeting to office@presbyteryofflorida.com or, if mailing, to Presbytery of Florida, P. O. Box 7, Chipley, FL 32428, ATTN: COM. And, as your 2023 Terms are approved, please also provide them. 

► On Sunday, October 16, Christ Presbyterian, Tallahassee will host the meeting to read East District session minutes, beginning at 1:30 p.m. EDT in the Koinonia Room at the church, located at 2317 Bannerman Road, Tallahassee. This will be to read and approve the minutes for 2019, 2020, and 2021. If you have older minutes that also have not been read, bring them, too. To simplify the review process, clerks are asked to complete a session records review form, in advance, for each year's minutes to be reviewed. Central and West District session records reviews are being scheduled and will be announced soon.

► The following presbytery meeting dates for 2023 have been set, so now, locations are needed. Please contact Jeannie Dixon (StatedClerk@PresbyteryOfFlorida.com) is you wish to host a meeting. All meetings start at 9:00 a.m. Central/10:00 a.m. Eastern, with registration one hour prior.

Our presbytery family

 Spiritfest middle-schoolers' weekend retreat is happening at Dogwood Acres October 14 – 16, with the theme "Live Life Loud". It's a time to relax, recharge, and reconnect, featuring keynotes, worship, small groups, recreation, workshops, and lots of fellowship, all in the beauty of God’s creation at Dogwood Acres. This retreat specifically for middle school students only (grades 6-8) is led by high school students from across the Presbytery of Florida. Lodging is in the Dogwood Acres cabins, and meals are provided in the dining hall. Contact Program Director Eric for more information or registration: eric@dogwoodacres.org.

 Pumpkin patches are popping up, presbytery-wide. Get your gorgeous gourds while benefitting youth ministries at Gulf Breeze Presbyterian October 18 – 31, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. CDT (Click here for a promotional image); Christ Presbyterian, Tallahassee after this Saturday, October 8; or Faith Presbyterian, Tallahassee, after today (https://faithpcusa.org/pumpkinpatch/). 

► UKirk Tallahassee will host a beach retreat for Tallahassee and Panhandle college students at Laguna Beach, Panama City, October 14 – 16. 

First Presbyterian Church of Milton will present a drop-in pet blessing event Saturday, October, 22, starting at 10 a.m. CDT. Those who cannot easily bring their pets may bring a pet photo. The event also will include a pet costume contest, with prizes for best-dressed. A guest from Friends of Santa Rosa Animal Shelter will attend, and pet food donations will be collected for local shelter animals in need.

First Presbyterian Church of Havana will have a Kirkin' o' the Tartan Sunday, November 6, at 11 a.m. EST, followed by a covered dish lunch. General Presbyter Roy Martin preach during worship.

 Chipley Presbyterian Church's Scottish Festival and Highland Games will be held Saturday, November 19, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. CST. The event will feature entertainment, food, a pipe band and a children's area. Tickets are $5 each. The church is located at 658 5th Sreet in Chipley.

► Northminster Presbyterian Church, Pensacola, is sponsoring a trip to the Holy Land Israel with an optional extension to Egypt next year from May 29 – June 6, 2023, led by Dr. Greg Seltzer and Reverend Shuford White.  First Presbyterian Church of Bainbridge, GA, recently honored Rev. Dr. Al Reese and Rev. Jerry Little as Pastor Emeritus. After serving at First, Bainbridge from 1979 to 1991, Rev. Dr. Reese, a Florida Presbytery member, was First, Pensacola's interim pastor from 1991 to 1993. Rev. Little previously served as Christ, Tallahassee's interim pastor in our presbytery, as well. The session presented a certificate, and First, Bainbridge's current pastor, Rev. John Erthein, former pastor at Euchee Valley Presbyterian, DeFuniak Springs, shared some words.

 We have all seen the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian. Here are several ways you can assist our fellow Floridians in the extensive recovery effort.
