Get involved, take over Iowa State

Student Government (StuGov) = the organization formerly known as the Government of the Student Body (GSB)

If you're looking for an outlet for your leadership skills, have you considered getting involved in Student Government? Student Government represents all students at ISU, acts on initiatives brought forth by students, and administers funds. Specifically, they fund 100+ student organizations (like the Student Union Board, the Iowa State Daily, and International Student Council) through the Student Activity Fee. Student Government also funds services such as the Student Loan Education Office, Student Counseling Services, Student Legal Services, and the Committee on Lectures. Student Government is basically CRAWLING with Honors students.

As for getting involved, the easiest thing for you to do is to check out the links below, attend a meeting, and talk to people like Kit, who is mentioned below. You can also bring issues to your Student Government rep, and work on it with them. StuGov election season is in March - you can run for Senate as well as apply for a cabinet position in late March.

Advice from an Honors Student Leader (and Student Government Finance Director):

Kit Clayburn, Junior in Animal Ecology and Biology
Student Government is the only organization on campus that exists to serve and represent every student at Iowa State University. Every semester, each student pays a Student Activity Fee of $44 to Student Government. This generates around $2.6 million dollars in revenue that Student Government distributes to student organizations and services across campus, Ames, and Story County. Our daily tasks in Student Government are to host events, fund organizations, and bridge the gap between students and the administration on campus. If you have any more questions regarding Student Government, the website is stugov.iastate.edu, or you can email me at clayke@iastate.edu! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

Where are they/what do they do?

Student Government (StuGov) meets on Wednesdays at 6:00pm in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union; meetings are open to the public. Their office is located at 1580H West Student Office Space in the ground floor of the Memorial Union.
