2022 Annual Report

Strengthening Families Georgia works to inspire action through education, awareness, and advocacy through the support of partners like you. Here are some of our accomplishments and highlights for 2022.

Creating Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs)

The holiday season is the most joyous time of the year for many people.  It can also be an important time to help children develop healthy social, emotional, and cognitive skills.  By practicing positive childhood experienWinter Kids Children Vector Stock Illustration - Download Image Now - Child, Winter, Coat - Garment - iStockces (PCEs), caregivers can help children to thrive during the holidays and all year by building traditions that are meaningful to them.  Read more about how you can create memories that help your kids grow into strong adults.

10 Ways to Practice PCEs During the Holiday Season

Protective Factors Tips for Parents: Holiday Edition

Caregiver Resilience: TIS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON
  • The holiday season can be a wonderful time of year.  However, when the holidays start to get too stressful, reflecting on the reason for celebrating can help to simplify your priorities during the holiday.  Togetherness, kindness, and spreading joy are all great reasons to celebrate the holiday season.  Also, consider planning ahead to avoid the extra stress of the "holiday rush".
Knowledge of Child Development: AGE-APPROPRIATE EXPECTATIONS
  • This can also mean a season full of not-so-child-friendly activities.  Disrupted regular routines and an influx of external stimuli such as toys and lights can make for a difficult time for young children.  This year, consider planning your social gathering around your child's routine and minimizing the number of external stimuli that your child is exposed to at one time.
Social & Emotional Competence: SOCIAL ANXIETIES AMONG LOVED ONES
  • For many families, the holiday season means attending social gatherings with your closest family and friends.  This may also mean that your child may be engaging with less-familiar faces than they are used to.  This year, consider acknowledging your child's feelings, fears, and anxieties in social settings and understand that it is normal for a child not to want to reciprocate affectionate hugs and extra attention from others.  Discuss what is appropriate during greetings and give them simple tools to empower them.
Concrete Support in Time of Need: SEEK SUPPORT TO COMBAT STRESS
  • The holidays can create hardships for many families so it is important to seek support during this time of year.  Modeling how to effectively deal with stress and overcome difficult circumstances is important preparation for a lifetime of resiliency for your child.  Find Help Georgia (www.findhelga.org) and the 1-800-CHILDREN (244-5373) Helpline is here to listen and to help connect families with concrete support in their community.

2023 Protective Factors Training Series

The Strengthening Families approach focuses on family and community strengths and Protective Factors rather than risk factors. Protective Factors are what helps children and families thrive despite whatever risk factors they might face. Sign up to attend a free 2-hour virtual session on each of the Strengthening Families' Protective Factors to help build resilience in your community.
