Here's what's In The Moment this week.
AROUND THE STATION
Now's the time. If you’ve been procrastinating about making your donation during this fund drive, I’m here to tell you that today is the day to do it!
Paige Martin
and Paul Clear have challenged us to get
35 pledges by 9:00 this morning, and if we do, they’ll donate $2,500 to the station you love. Donate HERE and be the pledge that gets us to our goal.

An evening with NPR President John Lansing. This October marks 75 years of Public Radio Tulsa. And to celebrate, we've invited NPR President John Lansing to Tulsa! See John at Circle Cinema on October 20th at 7:30 p.m. Purchase tickets HERE.

Celebrating Indigenous People’s Day. Tune in to KWGS 89.5 FM this Sunday, October 9th at 6 p.m. for The Rhythm Atlas’s special playlist in celebration of Indigenous People’s Day. Host Denis McGilvray will feature a wide variety of traditional and modern music by Native American and First Nations artists from across the U.S. and Canada, including local Oklahoman artists.

Win tickets to a live radio show taping. There’s nothing like watching a live performance — seeing the artist deliver that favorite line of yours, hearing the way a song transforms before an audience. Live from Cain’s, a public radio show taped in front of a live audience, captures moments like these alongside thought-provoking conversation. ENTER HERE to win a pair of tickets to the upcoming Live from Cain’s performance and live taping with John Fullbright on November 3rd at 6:30 p.m.
THE LOCAL BEAT
Relief for Oklahoma farmers and ranchers. The Oklahoma Conservation Commission approved a $3 million drought relief program that will distribute funds to local farmers and ranchers. The funds will support projects like well drilling, pumping facilities, pipeline, pasture tap, cover crop planting and more.

More choices in public education. Oklahoma’s Senate Bill 783 has allowed thousands of students to transfer schools, giving parents the opportunity to explore other education options. Read more about this new open transfer law HERE.

Election coming up! November’s general election is fast approaching which means now’s the time to register or update your registration to vote. The deadline is a week from tomorrow, October 14th. Learn more.
KEEPING BODY & SOUL TOGETHER
Settle into the season with these fall reads. My perfect day consists of: an overcast sky, brisk weather, a warm cup of coffee and a new book. Lucky for me, our favorite librarian Rebecca Howard compiled her list of perfect autumnal reads in this month’s Imprint — from Gothic favorites to historical dives. I can’t wait to settle into one of these reads. Read more HERE.

All corners of Latinidad. NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts is celebrating Latinx Heritage Month with El Tiny takeover. I’ve loved seeing these artists take El Tiny stage in Washington D.C. and at their own pupitres, at home. From his barrio La Boca, Argentinian artist and rapper Trueno pays tribute to the country and music that shaped him with a performance that exudes youth and passion. And in Lima, Peru, Susana Baca gathers musicians in a local library to deliver a joyful, relaxed performance that pays homage to her country’s African and Indigenous art forms.

This just in: The Onion, a satirical news site, recently submitted an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in defense of parody itself. The writers claim that "it should be obvious that parodists cannot be prosecuted for telling a joke with a straight face” as they mount their case in support of an Ohio man who created a parody page of his local police department.

Once again, get vaxxed. As we (slowly) enter into fall, we also turn the corner to the abominable flu season. And as medical experts predict an early and more severe flu season, they urge people to get their flu shots soon. More on when to get vaccinated against the flu HERE.

And please...stay safe, friends.
