Welcome to a New Team Member
Community Services would like to introduce Shana Derench to the team as the Shire's new Community Events & Services Officer. Shana has been in local government for 7 years and has experience in general admin, community services, library services, finance, building & health and now events. Shana has lived in Woodridge for 7 years with her husband and 3 girls. Some of her hobbies include spending time outdoors, camping, reading, arts/craft and graphic design. Shana looks forward to meeting you all out and about at events and working with you all to support an inclusive, vibrant, healthy and safe community. Shana will be working three days a week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and can be contacted on 9575 5139 or Shana.Derench@gingin.wa.gov.au.

Pulse of the Wheatbelt Survey
Wheatbelt residents have the opportunity to have their voice heard - this survey is brought to you by Holyoake. This is an anonymous digital survey for all Wheatbelt residents 18+ years. You will also go in the draw to win a $300 RedBallon Experience Voucher.
If you would like to have input into health service planning, education and training opportunities and placed based community safety initiatives, please complete the ‘Pulse of the Wheatbelt’ Survey by scanning the QR code below or visiting Mentimetre and entering the code provided. Community Citizen of the year Awards
The Shire of Gingin is seeking nominations for community members who have stepped up and performed admirably within our community over the past 12 months.
It could be someone who is well known for their community spirit and support or someone who is out there quietly serving the community in the background.
We encourage the community to really have a think about these very deserving recipients. In big or small ways – how did they make our community a better place this year?
There are four award categories that you may nominate a community member or group/event within. They include:
COMMUNITY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
A person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community
COMMUNITY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR (YOUTH)
Under 25 as of 26 January 2023 - a young person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community
COMMUNITY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR (SENIOR)
Over 65 as of 26 January 2023 - an older person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community
ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP (GROUP OR EVENT)
A group doing outstanding work or for an event staged in the community during the past year
Nominations close 31 October 2022, simply fill in the online form found on the Community Citizen of the Year Awards website.

Kidsafe WA - Child Car Restraints Webinar
Monday 10th October at 11am, join Kidsafe WA in a free online webinar discussing child car restraints and the common mistakes we see and how to fix these issues. This workshop is best suited for parents, carers and child care professionals who use a child car restraint regularly.

COVID 19 Update - Department of Health
Changes to case and close contact requirements
The requirements for COVID-19 cases and close contacts have changed.
COVID-19 cases and close contacts must isolate for 5 complete days (5 x 24 hours).
- People with COVID-19 symptoms at Day 5 should remain at home until their acute symptoms resolve.
- Close contacts must test negative before finishing the 5-day isolation period (Day 5 rapid antigen test (RAT) or Day 4 PCR).
- Staff, elective patients and visitors must not enter high-risk facilities including hospitals, healthcare services, residential aged care and disability support accommodation facilities for 7 days from testing positive. Elective patients and visitors must not enter high-risk facilities for 7 days after becoming a close contact. Close contacts with no symptoms who work in high-risk settings can attend work if certain requirements are met.
Masks
The requirement to wear a face mask on all domestic aircraft and public transport, as well as rideshare services and taxis, was removed Friday 9 September 2022. Masks are strongly encouraged when physical distancing isn’t possible, including on public transport and when indoors.
Masks continue to have an important role in high-risk settings, such as healthcare settings, hospitals, and correctional, residential aged care and disability services facilities, to protect those more vulnerable to severe illness.

Work Health & Safety Laws Include Volunteers
New work health and safety laws came into effect on 31 March 2022 and now recognise the role of volunteers and their right to be safe.
WorkSafe Western Australia has developed a guide on how the new laws apply to organisations which engage volunteers. It outlines the primary duty that organisations have to workers and volunteers and how to meet this duty.

Developing the cultural awareness and trauma responsive skills and capabilities of the child and family sector workforce
This grant aims to develop the cultural awareness and trauma responsiveness of the child and family sector organisations and workforce engaged through the Department of Social Services’ grants funding (the program). The grant will run over 2 years from 2022–23 to 2023–24 financial years.
The program is funded under Outcome 2: Program 2.2.1: National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children, and was announced as part of the 2021 Commonwealth Closing the Gap Implementation Plan. This grant opportunity supports Target 12 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap (the National Agreement), which is: By 2031, reduce the rate of over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care by 45%.

Drug Aware YCulture Regional
Are you aged 12-26 and living in regional WA? Do you want to develop your creative skills and gain experience by running an arts project in your community? Drug Aware YCulture Regional offers grants for arts projects run by young people, for young people, see the link below for further details. Applications close 30 November 2022.

Harmony Week 2023 Grants
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) is offering grants of $2,000 to support community-led activities promoting and celebrating multiculturalism in Western Australia for inclusion in its Harmony Week 2023 campaign. Activities should involve:
- Culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) communities in their coordination and be open to participation from the broader community.
- Activities with a focus on culture and arts and sport and active recreation are encouraged in this funding round.
- Culture and arts activities are those that involve a professional artist or arts practitioner working with the community to design and deliver the activity.
- Sport and active recreation activities are those that involve the community participating in a primary activity requiring physical exertion and/or physical skill.

Stay On Your Feet - Improve your Health Grants
Applications are now open for Improve Your Health grants of up to $5,000 (plus GST) for the delivery of community-based falls prevention projects throughout March to May 2023.Grant Applications close 5pm Friday 14 October 2022.
Improve Your Health is one part of the Move Improve Remove messaging used to encourage older adults to stay active, independent, and prevent falls. An individual’s diet, medication intake, and cognitive ability can influence an individual’s falls risk and maintaining overall health and wellbeing is essential for healthy ageing.

Scouts Australia - Leadership Through Adventure Fund
Are you looking to fund your next grand adventure? Are you thinking of challenging yourself to lead an adventurous journey, scale a mountain, or lead a Patrol to explore the unknown in an epic experience?
The new Dick and Pip Smith Leadership Through Adventure Fund has been created following their incredibly generous donation of $1m to Scouts Australia. Over the next five years, this exciting fund will support adventurous activities that develop leadership skills and demonstrate responsible risk-taking, including:
- Outdoor Adventurous journeys,
- Training courses for Outdoor Adventure Skills,
- and even international expeditions
The first round of applications open on Thursday 1 September 2022 and close 9 October 2022. For more information, or to submit an application, email LTAF@scouts.com.au.
