Multi-Sensory Approach to Literacy

Register Now for Young children with a sensory impairment/complex learning need are not always able to access ‘typical story books.’ Across three webinars presented by Gwyn McCormack, you will be taken from this point and shown how to bring literacy to life beyond a typical story book. A holistic, practical approach will be used to consider how everyday experiences are a key to a child’s literacy development. This will be shared within a framework of tactile, fine motor, book and story skills, concept development and auditory and language skills.  A wonderful practical range of resources, ideas and strategies will be shared to inspire and demonstrate how stories can be made accessible for children with sensory impairment/complex learning needs.

This series will be recorded and posted to the ITC Webinar Page for future viewing. The archive of this webinar series will be offered for Fall 2022 inservice credit through the University of Idaho (UI). Credit registration for this course opens November 2, 2022 and closes November 18, 2022. UI registration instructions are located inside the accompanying online course.

About the presenter:

Gwyn McCormack has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of education and vision impairment. She spent many years as a secondary school teacher and as a qualified teacher of vision impairments before founding Positive Eye in 2008. Gwyn is committed to improving outcomes for children with vision impairments by providing practitioners with practical based, solution-focused strategies and approaches.
