Is it possible to have a European generation of non-smokers? 

A civic initiative promoted by the Spanish NGO Nofumadores.org is calling the EU to prohibit the sale of tobacco and nicotine products to all citizens born since 2010, so as to gradually phase out legal smoking. What are the prospects of this proposal, and the context where it'd apply? Kata Moravecz from EUrologus/HVG looks into them.

• Hungary is the only member state where the rate of young smokers outnumbers the rate of smokers among the general population. Hungary leads the charts in youth smoking, as 29% of young Hungarians smoke.
• In order to reduce smoking, countries have been exploring plain-packaging laws; sale in designated shops, and high taxation of cigarettes. Neither of these measures appear to significantly reduce youth propensity to smoke.

• Finland has the highest tax-rate on cigarettes. Packs of cigarettes are particularly cheap in Bulgaria and expensive in Ireland. Data suggests that where cigarettes are cheaper the people smokes above the EU average.

EDJNet's webinars for Tactical Tech

Exposing the Invisible, a project run by the international NGO Tactical Tech, has produced a number of materials and online talks on tools and methods for investigative journalism and greater transparency as part of their Collaborative and Investigative Journalism Initiative.

EDJNet's team was involved in two talks, one discussing challenges of and some best practices for collaborative journalism, and the other one presenting how we used open data from Copernicus in order to assess the local impact of global warming in Europe. From the European data journalism community

The Investigative Journalism for Europe fund has opened two new calls for cross-border investigative journalism projects in Europe. Their Investigation Support Scheme will provide grants up to €50,000 to cross-border teams, another scheme will fund teams made up predominantly of freelance journalists. Team members must be based in at least two EU member states or at least one EU member state and one EU candidate country. Projects must focus on topics of cross-border relevance.
