Rotary Park was dedicated on February 18, 1972 by the parents of Bobby Pearse. . Bobby Pearse, Private First Class US Army Kingsley R. Pearse; son of Kingsley H. and Marjorie Johnson Pearse, was killed in World War II at Heasbourg Gap in France on November 14, 1944. His parents initiated the building fund in the early 1950’s to honor the first killed in action from the Northgate area of Greenville. The North Greenville Rotary Club, Hillcrest Community Club, and the Hillcrest Garden Club were all involved in the project.
From 2003 to 2006, two park plans were developed and citizen votes were taken to determine the park’s direction. The picnic shelter and plaza were added, the playground was renovated, the basketball court was relocated and major funds were spent on erosion control along the creek. Home to the large after-school and summer programs offered in the City of Greenville through the Parks and Recreation programming. These programs have waiting lists and spots are desired by residents in the North Main and surrounding communities.”
