Fire Safety and City Inspections

NEW!  See instructions below on how to attend the ZOOM meeting below!

Join your Weigent-Hogan board and neighbors for our October meeting featuring guest presentations and association news.

Join us on Monday, October 10th at 6:30PM for the WHNA monthly member meeting to learn about how the City Inspections Dept works.  What constitutes a code violation and how should we proceed if we think there’s a problem?  Our meetings are virtual so go to https://whnalax.wordpress.com/ and scroll down to Click to Join the Meeting to attend!

We will also be joined by Tim Knudson from the Fire Department to talk about the important topic of Fire Safety!

Tim Acklin from the City Planning Department will  talk more about the City’s comprehensive plan.  The plan, which is in the process of being updated, will address issues and opportunities, housing, transportation, economic development, intergovernmental cooperation, land use, utilities, community facilities, agricultural, natural and cultural resources, and plan implementation.  Tim will share how YOU can provide input.

REMEMBER!  The meeting will be on Monday, October 10, 6:30 PM via ZOOM. THERE IS A NEW LINK FOR THIS MEETING!

The program will be followed by a short business meeting to keep you up to date on the issues in our neighborhood.  We will update information on the Hogan Garden, upcoming WHNA Board elections (see box below), and new community engagement officers (see box below).

Please don't miss this opportunity to learn and to be engaged with your neighbors!

Go to   https://whnalax.wordpress.com/ to join the Zoom meeting. Then click on the link to "Click Join the Meeting" and follow the instructions there. The button will be active just before the meeting starts.

ALSO AT OCTOBER MEETING
2 City of La Crosse Police Officers assigned to WHNA for Community Engagement

The City of La Crosse Police Department is expanding their neighborhood resource officer footprint in the City by assigning 2 patrol level officers to the WHNA neighborhood. One of the officers works days and one works nights. They will be attending our neighborhood meetings to hear our concerns and update us on any initiatives impacting our neighborhood. The officers are Jesse Cotto and Alex Scray. If you were at our Neighbor’s Night Out you may have met Alex as he attended. So, if you have issues you’d like to bring to their attention, or are interested in an update from the Police Dept. be sure to attend the WHNA general meetings on the 2nd Monday of the month at 6:30. They are virtual so just go to whnalax.org, click on “Join the Meeting” and follow the prompts!
JOIN THE WHNA BOARD!
Be part of charting our neighborhood's future

Want to help guide our neighborhood’s future? Become a member of the 2023 WHNA Board! As a Board member you have a chance to represent our neighborhood to the City and help them identify neighborhood needs and issues. As a Board, we identified the need to update the Weigent Park shelter and playground and we helped the city see the need for flashing beacons on Cass and Jackson streets to help pedestrians and cyclists cross safely.
In January, we will be voting for four open 2-year Board terms. We encourage you to run for the WHNA Board and help us preserve the things we love about our neighborhood and improve it to address issues of concern. Be a part of guiding WHNA’s future!

Below are the remaining topics for the 2022 General Meetings.  All meetings will be via ZOOM until further notice.  Planned topics are subject to change.

October: Fire Safety
November:  Tentative Weigent Park Open House

Are there other topics you would like to learn more about? Some that have been suggested are BBBB, our neighborhood businesses.  Are there issues you’d like to see WHNA address? Let us know your preferences  by sending a message on the WHNA FaceBook page

The 2022 Hogan Garden is ready for bed!  Many thanks to the diligent weeders and waterers for making this year's garden a success!  For any questions about the 2022 garden, please contact Linda Lee at llee9279@gmail.com or Sue Bulk at suebee4147@gmail.com.  Soon we will be discussing the viability of a garden in 2023. We know that our neighbors appreciated the produce and we love that, but too much of the work has fallen on too few people.  If you want to see the garden continue, please consider signing up to volunteer NOW.
Tell Us Your Thoughts!
Every year the City of La Crosse designates CIP (Community Improvement Program) funds for various improvements throughout the city. These funds are designated for projects that improve the City's infrastructure, safety, beautification, etc. CIP funds are being used to replace the Weigent Park shelter and have been designated in the past to help neighborhood associations realize infrastructure improvements within their boundaries (think the new play structure in Weigent Park, boulevard trees and the rapid flashing beacon on Cass and 21st St).
The WHNA Board is interested in learning what other improvements you would like to see within the WHNA boundaries. Don't hold back, let us know your top five concerns or desires for Weigent-Hogan by completing the survey on our web site. Go to https://whnalax.org/landing/surveys/cipfunding/  to complete the survey.
Thanks!
The WHNA Board
