Tak£500+ Participatory Budget Fund

ABC Community Planning Partnership is launching itsTak£500+ Participatory Budgeting Fund on 17th October.

There are a series of information sessions on the dates below, to register click on the links:

Monday 17th October 7pm – 8pm Craigavon: Craigavon Civic Centre

Monday 17th October 7pm – 8pm Armagh: Chamber at Place Demesne

Wednesday 19th October 10am - 11am – Online: Zoom

Wednesday 26 October 7pm – 8pm: Banbridge: Banbridge Leisure Centre.

Community groups within the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon area can now receive up to £1000 for a project that they think will have a positive impact on their community thanks to the Tak£500+ Participatory Budget Fund.

Both constituted groups and non-constituted groups can apply for funding to help bring an idea to life. All ideas must be based around the ‘Take 5 Ways of Wellbeing’, which are five simple steps to help maintain and improve your wellbeing on a daily basis.

Applications will now open on Monday 17th October and close on Friday 25th November.

Inclusive Sports Facility Award

Disability Sport NI has officially recognised Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for championing the needs of people with disabilities and fully embracing the inclusivity agenda in the design, construction and management of its flagship £36m South Lake Leisure Centre.

Opened in November 2020, the new state-of-the-art leisure centre in Craigavon has become one of the only sports facilities in NI to achieve the highest level of accreditation possible in the Inclusive Sports Facility (ISF) scheme. First introduced in 2010, this scheme recognises excellence in the design of sports facilities which are inclusive of people with disabilities.

A council delegation along with key partners recently gathered at South Lake LC to mark this outstanding achievement.

Get Out Get Active National Award

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council and Disability Sport NI’s inclusive physical activity programme ‘Get Out, Get Active (GOGA) In Action’ is named overall winner for Best Health and Wellbeing Initiative at this year’s Association of Public Service Excellence (APSE) Awards.

Held last month, the APSE Awards are specific to frontline services provided by UK local authorities and aim to promote and celebrate outstanding achievement and innovation within this sector.

Involving a range of partners and local volunteers, the GOGA Programme targets the hardest to reach, least active disabled and non-disabled people in the borough to encourage participation in inclusive fun activities together, such as Tai Chi for Health, Buggy Fit, Nordic Walking, GOGA Fit.

Micro Community Investment Fund

The Micro Community Investment Fund enables  organisations who are making the lives of others in their communities better, by improving their financial, physical, and mental well-being through new or existing community initiatives.

The Community Foundation want to support smaller, grassroots organisations delivering great work.  For this reason whilst groups with an income of up to £30,000 per annum are eligible to apply preference will be given to groups with an income of up to £10,000.

Up to £2,000 of funding is available.

Community projects should focus on improving at least one of the following.

  • Financial wellbeing
  • Physical wellbeing
  • Mental wellbeing

Applications to the Fund are now open as a rolling call for applications

Tackling Isolation for Older People Fund

The ARN Foundation’s Tackling Isolation for older people Fund will support organisations to deliver projects in support of older people affected by the cost of living crisis; and will be managed by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland.

Up to £5,000 financial support is available. 

To be eligible to apply your project must target at least one of the key priorities detailed below:

  • Supporting older people to keep warm.
  • Supporting older people to access a nutritious meal.
  • Reducing isolation and vulnerability of older people through supporting participation in activities, particularly those living in rurally isolated areas.
  • Enabling older people to access technology, and to potential benefits and entitlements that they may not be aware of.
  • Projects supporting older people in rural communities.

We are particularly interested in prioritising older people aged 60 or over, however, we define older people as anyone aged 50 or over. Projects should be completed within 12 months.

A week long of activities will take place as part of the Getactiveabc Halloween 2022 extravanganza from Thursday 27th October to Friday 4th November.

Triathlon Boosts Hubs

The next Triathlon Ireland BOOST Hubs take place at South Lake Leisure Centre on the following dates:

16th October

  • The hubs are open to all levels of abilities and aim to:
  • Provide a fun and engaging environment in which to learn triathlon skills.
  • Help athletes reach their full potential whatever this means for each athlete.
  • Support the athletes to learn more about themselves as an individual while being part of a training group outside of their club.
  • Create a team environment and provide opportunities for junior athletes to meet other athletes in their region.
  • Support clubs with coach development opportunities.
  • Educate athletes, parents & coaches on all aspects of the sport and youth athlete development.
Cycling Ireland Ride Leaders Award

Cycling Ireland Ride Leader training will provide leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively lead and manage a group of cyclists on the road in club/group rides.

The training will take place on Sunday 23rd October at South Lake LC from 9am - 5pm. Pre-registration is essential and limited spaces are available. 

The award is for those interested in leading a cycling group in the ABC Council area as part of an active travel programme or physical activity session.

NPLQ Award

Free National Pool Lifeguard Qualification Course

Want to become a pool lifeguard? Now's your chance with our FREE NPLQ Course. Very limited spaces remain. Course takes place at South Lake Leisure Centre over 6 days - ALL six days are mandatory.

Wednesday 26 October - Monday 31 October (inclusive)
8.30am-5.00pm daily

Each candidate must:

  • Be aged 16-30
  • Complete a water test prior to being accepted onto the course. This will take place on Monday 17th October at 4pm

Energy Bill Relief Scheme

Guidance on the Energy Bill Relief Scheme: help for businesses and other non-domestic customers (Northern Ireland) has now been published:

The scheme will be available to everyone on a non-domestic contract, who meet certain criteria.  This includes:

  • businesses
  • voluntary sector organisations, such as charities
  • public sector organisations such as schools, hospitals and leisure centres

It will be automatically applied to bills from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023
