We Need Volunteers.

This year, the demand for our services has been greater than ever. Domestic violence is still on the rise and the number of evictions cases has not decreased.
We need your help.

Volunteer Spotlight
Chancellor Shafor
Eversheds Sutherland

Chancellor Shafor began volunteering with AVLF earlier this year and since then has become a fixture at our Saturday Lawyer clinics, volunteering multiple weekends in a row.  Chance has also taken time out to mentor volunteer students who attend the clinic.

Recently, at one of our in-person clinics, he spent dedicated time with an undergrad student preparing to enter law school. The individualized attention that he gave the student was very heartwarming.

"My inspiration to volunteer is my wife, who is a surgical resident with Emory.  She dedicates so much of her time to needs and care of her patients, and it makes me want to contribute to the community and help those in need."
- Chancellor Shafor
Staff Spotlight
Crystal Redd

Our very own Crystal Redd was a panelist at the Atlanta Regional Housing Forum, joining other local advocates and practitioners to discuss tenant rights in Georgia. Thank you Crystal for continuing to build trust with our community by serving with professionalism and integrity.

Help a Tenant With An Illegal Eviction

Ms. V had lived in her previous apartment for a couple of years when In March of 2020, she decided to prepay rent for the next 3 months. She gave the money orders to a leasing agent. Two days later, the apartment informed the tenants that the leasing agent that VW had given her rent money to had been stealing people’s rent. The landlord then reached out to VW and told her that she needed to pay the 3 month’s rent she had already paid to the leasing agent over again. She refused and the landlord filed an eviction against her. In Mid-December 2020, while the case was still pending, VW returned to her unit and found that the doors were locked and her things had been removed. VW would like her personal property back, if possible, or reimbursement for her lost items.
