Freckles: Cute or Dangerous?
Did you know there are two types of freckles? Ones that get darker in the summer and lighter in the winter, and the other kind appear and never change. Whichever you have, they are a result of sun damage. Freckles and sun damage are different. Freckles develop on the skin to help protect it from the sun. Cellular DNA becomes damaged from the sun, which leads to the breakdown of collagen and elastin. Though freckles are harmless, people who freckle easily are more prone to skin cancer. An easy way to detect melanoma is using the ABCDEs guide. If you see something concerning, check with your Dermatologist or Primary Care Physician.
