A quick correction from last week regarding Household Hazardous Waste Day scheduled for Saturday, November 5th. The event will be held at the DPW facility located at 470 Dedham Ave. Residents should enter at DeFazio Field. This event will not impact the Swap Shop, which will be open that day. Final Overnight Paving on Highland Avenue Friday, October 14 for Needham-Newton Corridor Project

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation and its contractors will perform final paving operations along Highland Ave. between Webster Street and the I-95 ramps beginning Friday, October 14th at 7 pm until 5 am Saturday, October 15th.

During this work, traffic along Highland Avenue and Webster Street will be detoured, and must use the following routes.

Access to Mills Road, Utica Road, and Hunting Road will be closed at Highland Ave. Residents will need to use Hunting Road at Kendrick Street.

Community Happenings at the High School Saturday, October 22nd

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 22nd and head to Needham High School for a series of events to celebrate fall and support the Town’s high school students.

The Needham High School Craft Fair and Bake Sale will take place from 9 am to 4 pm in the High School’s A&B Gyms. Proceeds from the entrance fee ($10 general admission, $5 for seniors, students free) will support the High School PTC programming for NHS students.

That same day, Needham High students host a Fall Festival for students in grades K-5. The festival is $5 per child and will be held in the 100S Hallway. RSVP here.

Commission on Disabilities Invites Applicants to Apply for Funding for Accessibility Projects

The Needham Commission on Disabilities invites community-based organizations and programs, schools and Needham residents to apply for funding from its grant program. Funding is available for small-scale programs or infrastructure improvements that enhance accessibility of provides services and equipment to better enable individuals with disabilities to function more successfully and independently in the community.

Proposals for grants may be presented for consideration by contacting the Needham Commission on Disabilities at 781-455-7500 x 295. Visit the Commission’s website for more information.

Design Review Board Seeking Volunteer Board Member

The Needham Planning Board is seeking applications from persons interested in filling a position on the Design Review Board. Qualified individuals will preferably have a background in sign making or graphic design. The selected person will complete an existing 3-year term that will expire on June 30, 2024. Subsequent terms are 3 years. The Board regularly meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m., either in person or remotely. This is a volunteer position appointed by the Planning Board.

Interested applicants are encouraged to send a letter of interest and resume to the Needham Planning Board, Needham Public Services Administration Building, 500 Dedham Avenue, Needham, Massachusetts 02492 or email planning@needhamma.gov. Applications will be accepted until November 4, 2022, at 5:00 p.m., or until the position is filled.
