Magical Tales at Rose Auditorium

Musical Stories for Children of All Ages

You are invited to join us to open our 48th Season with Magical Tales, which will be performed in Spanish on Saturday, October 22, and in English on Sunday, October 23, in the new Rose Auditorium at South Salem High School. Both concerts will begin at 3 pm. Doors will open for seating at 2 pm, and our director, John Skelton will offer a pre-concert talk at 2:15 about the concert and our coming season. We are thrilled to bring you all four concerts of the season in this beautiful new concert hall.

Our first program will feature music inspired by many of our most beloved fables and stories. We will feature Arturo Sarmiento and Paz Garcia at our Saturday show, introducing our selections and narrating The Legend of La Llorona and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in Spanish. Jeff Witt will narrate our Sunday concert in English.

John Williams, Julie Giroux, Johan de Meij, James Stephenson, and Salem's own Larry Harrington have translated our stories into musical masterpieces. We will bring you music from Harry Potter and Superman from the pen of John Williams. Julie Giroux brings us The Lion and the Mouse, The Pied Piper of Hamelin, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Ugly Duckling, and The Three Billy Goats Gruff in A Symphony of Fables. Johan de Meij offers Ratty, Mole, Mr. Toad, and more in The Wind in the Willows. James Stephenson provides a new setting for Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. We will premiere Larry Harrington's musical celebration of the ghost Legend of La Llorona, the weeping woman. While the stories that inspired this music were written for children, it is genuinely symphonic in their depth, power, and beauty.

All 900 of the seats in Rose Auditorium are good seats. We offer a reserved seating option for audience members who like to adopt a specific space in advance of the program. All other seats are general admission with pricing for students 18 and under, adults, and senior citizens 60 and over. The auditorium entrance at 700 Howard Street has an available ramp for wheelchair or walker convenience. Tickets are available at SalemSymphonicWinds.org. Avoid the line at the box office by purchasing your tickets in advance.
