Hello CELC members,

This month we are celebrating two of my favorite things Energy Efficiency Day and Halloween.
Over 40 cities, states, and counties – including the US senate – issued proclamations declaring on October 5th Energy Efficiency Day. Congratulations to the City of Dallas for being the first Texas entity to issue an Energy Efficiency Day Proclamation for 2022! Since then, both Travis County and Harris County have issued EE Day proclamations. There is so much untapped potential for energy savings through increased efficiency, especially in our Texas & Oklahoma regions.  Happy Halloween to you all!

Public Non-Rulemaking Docket Now Open for the Power Sector Actions (EGUs)

The EPA has opened a public docket to accept pre-proposal input on EPA’s efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) from new and existing fossil fuel-fired electric generating units (EGUs). The goal of this non-rulemaking docket is to gather perspectives from a broad group of stakeholders in advance of our proposed rulemakings.  These proposed rulemakings are important actions to mitigate the emission of GHGs to address the challenges of climate change and may impact emissions at facilities located near communities with environmental justice concerns. You can access the docket using this link: https://www.regulations.gov/.  Search for Docket No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2022-0723 and follow the online instructions for submitting information. The docket will remain open until March 27, 2023.

Congrats AISD! - Austin Independent School District Commits to 100% Electric Buses by 2035.
The entire board of trustees of the Austin Independent School District (AISD) agreed that buses should go completely electric. It voted to convert the district’s entire bus fleet by 2035. This pioneering move in Texas has already been in place in Boston, New York, and other U.S. districts. Everman Independent School District, near Fort Worth, was first to purchase the electric vehicles, but Austin sets the state record with a total overhaul. To read more about it click here.

CELC Toolkit

The City Efficiency Toolkit is a how-to and resource guide for establishing or building energy efficiency programs and initiatives. SPEER worked with CELC member cities to consolidate relevant resources in ten toolkit modules. We will continue to grow the toolkit as resources and module topics emerge from the network.
