The Academic and Research Libraries (ARL) Section of IFLA focuses on cooperation, exchange of information, and promotion and support of the role of libraries as core institutions for research and education worldwide.

Our evolving committee

We are pleased to welcome two new co-opted members to the ARL standing committee, representing Asia:

  • Lily Ko (above left), Head, Learning Services, the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library, China
  • Shaharima Parvin (above right), Assistant Librarian, East West University, Bangladesh.

This brings to 18 the number of countries represented on the ARL Standing Committee. We are truly a multicultural team!

Next stop: Rotterdam!

Planning is well underway for IFLA’s 2023 World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) to be held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, from 21-25 August 2023.

As always, ARL will be “front and centre” at WLIC. We plan to hold a satellite conference before the Congress, along with our always-popular Hot Topics session and a joint session with another IFLA Section. More details will be provided as soon as possible. And our annual ARL Attendance Grants will enable three information professionals to attend the Congress for the first time. Fond memories of Dublin

The 2022 World Library and Information Congress has left us with many fond memories.

ARL's Business Meeting at the Congress was  the first time we had met face-to-face in three years. We also welcomed the recipients of our Attendance Grants, Roana Flores (Philippines) and Danitza Noemi Coronel Tola (Bolivia) to the meeting. They're pictured above with members of the Committee.

You can check out two of the Hot Topics presentations below:

We’ll post the remaining presentations as soon as possible.
