HNZPTA Writes
HNZPTA Christmas stand-down dates
A reminder that the annual Christmas legislative stand-down period is coming up, which runs from the 20th December until the 10th January. During this time, we are unable to issue any authority decisions including granting, accepting and returning applications. Emergency Authorities are exempt from this. In order for a project to undertake earthworks over the Christmas period, the authority application will need to be with HNZPT no later than the 18th of October 2022 (assuming a 20WD processing time) or have a grant date of no later than the 23rd of November 2022.

Vanessa Clark Writes:
Survey: Understanding the research potential of coastal Otago archaeological sites and the impact climate change may have on them
Do you have knowledge of coastal Otago archaeological sites and the information they may provide about the human history of New Zealand?  I am seeking participants to undertake a survey to understand the archaeological research potential of archaeological sites in coastal Otago to demonstrate the significance of information we are likely to lose from sites that are vulnerable to climate change.  This project is being undertaken as part of the requirements for the Master of Archaeological Practice.

The stone statue to Sinare has been leaning back, propped up by a number of rocks for the past 20-30 years, after being hit by a falling tree. Last week we straightened the statue, returning it to the original position, and revealing a carving of a face on the back of the figure which has a strong resemblance to a Māori Tiki. It's amazing to think of the cultural connections between the Solomon Islanders and New Zealand Māori four thousand kilometres away.
