ON THE BIT - FRIDAY 7th OCTOBER 2022
2022 Australasian Young Drivers Championship

HRSA is proud to advise that South Australia’s representative for the 2022 Australasian Young Championships is….

Samantha Pascoe

These Championships have been on a Covid enforced hiatus since 2019. During this period of time, Sam has established herself as a top young driver in our ranks, highlighted by her runaway victory in last season’s Young Drivers’ Premiership.

The Australasian Young Championship is a wonderful initiative that traces back a number of decades. A long list of notable winners include Todd McCarthy, Kerryn Manning, James Rattray and SA’s very own Dani Hill in 2009.

Drivers will compete in 10 races across 6 different tracks throughout Victoria from December 2nd – 9th before enjoying some hospitality together on Inter Dominion night at Melton, Saturday December 10th.

The race schedule is as follows:

Date Day Track Heats
2/12/2022 Friday Melton 2
3/12/2022 Saturday Geelong 1
5/12/2022 Monday Yarra Valley 2
7/12/2022 Wednesday Ballarat 2
8/12/2022 Thursday Kilmore 2
9/12/2022 Friday Bendigo 1
      10

2022 2yo SOUTHERN CROSS & GOLDEN NURSERY ELIGIBILITY
Please be reminded that as per the conditions of the Southern Cross Racing Series announced in August 2019 for foals born in the 2019-20 breeding season the following criteria applies:
2019-20 SA BRED FOALS
  • If your current 2yo was born in SA and the relevant Southern Cross fees have been paid there is no further eligibility required. SA Bred Southern Cross eligible horses can be owned and trained by any individual(s).
 2019-20 SA OWNED FOALS
  • If your current 2yo was born in a State other than South Australia, is 100% SA owned/leased and the relevant Southern Cross fees have been paid, it must also be domiciled in South Australia and under the care of a trainer licensed with HRSA for not less than 60 days prior to being eligible to compete in the Southern Cross Racing Series.
Therefore, if your current 2yo was made Southern Cross eligible via the SA Owned clause above and you intend to compete in the 2022 Southern Cross Racing Series commencing Saturday November 26, a stable return must be lodged in the name of a South Australian trainer no later than Tues September 27.

Similarly, any 2yo looking to compete in the 2022 Alabar Golden Nursery Series which was born in a state other than South Australia must be under the care of a South Australian trainer and domiciled in SA by no later than Tuesday September 27. Once again, the SA trained requirement does not apply to 2yo’s which were born in SA.
