Message from the Education Director,
It has been lovely to see Prep pupils getting stuck into their events at Sports Day. They competed in a huge range of events, from tug of war to standing jumps to sack races. They coped incredibly well, showing admirable team spirit. It was a close run competition between the four houses; Dragon, Unicorn, Tiger and Phoenix. In Prep, the winning house was Dragon , in Secondary we unfortunately had to cancel the event and students did house activities during their PE lessons with the winner to be announced next week.

The Prep pupils enjoyed their first assembly from their new Head of Prep, Mr. Simon. During the assembly we learnt about his family and his beliefs on education, had a house quiz and played plenty of uplifting music! Mr. Simon has enjoyed getting to know all the children, staff and parents who he has met this week. A particular highlight was the tug-of-war at Sports Day!

The year 8 students had an inspiring and informative visit to Hanoi’s Fine Art Museum. They reviewed portraits and discussed the incredible Vietnamese sculptures from the 1800s that were on display.

I am really pleased to announce our new RGSV Youth Drama course for Years 7 to 12 will be starting on Saturday 29th October.  I know how happy everyone is, staff and students alike, that trips and events are back in full swing.

Please do email me if there is anything at all that I can help you with.

With my very best wishes.
Yours sincerely,

Arabella Crook

Prep Sports Day
On Thursday we held a very successful Sports Day for our Preparatory school children. Our Prep students competed to earn points for their houses in a wide variety of athletic events with the particular highlight being our tug of war! It was fantastic to see the children cheering each other on but it was also a real pleasure to see so many parents attending. A huge thank you should also go to our fabulous PE Team and Prep Staff for running the events.

We can't wait to find out who the winner was in assembly next week!
Secondary News
Year 9 and 10 have continued to work on their class assemblies, we are looking forward to the Year 10 presentations next Friday.

Year 11 had the opportunity to talk with a number of US universities this week, students completed their worksheets to support them in gaining valuable knowledge on future university options.
Year Eight Arts & Humanities Field Trip
Year Eight returned from a successful visit to Hanoi's Fine Art Museum on Wednesday at noon. The mission was to continue their portrait drawing studies and look at some fascinating ancient Vietnamese sculptures from the 1800s. The Buddhist monk's statues at the Museum are full of stories, personality and dynamism. So, with the help and guidance from Mr Will, Ms Ludwin & Ms Sarah, Year Eight, returned to RGSV with tales of drawing Buddhist monks and dragonfly toys in their pockets.

RGSV PANTHER SPORTS

MS Basketball
This week both middle school boys basketball teams attended their first away fixture of the season. After a long lock down stuck at home with no training, the boys have worked really hard this year and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be able to travel again to other schools to represent RGSV.

The girls faced a much more experienced BIS team. During the first half, the opponent dominated the game at both ends. From an intense and well-organized defense to quick transitions, BIS managed to get some easy buckets.
However, in the second half, after some adjustments, our girls found their rhythm and got some points!!
Varsity Volleyball
Once again the Varsity volleyball teams boarded the bus to take on another HAC school.

We went into this game knowing that it was going to be a hard match and we weren't disappointed. Concordia is a strong Volleyball school so this was a chance for us to test ourselves.

We have learned a lot after the these games. We will return to practice to overcome our weaknesses and get ready for the upcoming matches.

Diploma Programme (DP)
On 5th October Ms. Gita, the RGSV DP Coordinator, hosted a hybrid meeting with Diploma Programme Coordinator's (DPCs) in the regional network that RGSV belongs to: Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.  DPCs from international schools from all of these countries attended the meeting where they discussed items that influence the learning for students in the DP and the upcoming assessment session in May 2023.  The most exciting development is that the network members have decided to create Job Alike opportunities for our subject teachers.  This means that teachers will be able to meet in person or online to discuss the teaching and development of their subject groups, and even moderate student submitted assignments. We all look forward to finally able to connect more often in person and virtually to work together to improve the learning for all DP students in this region.  Additionally, this opportunity gives RGSV the opportunity to become recognised with our new name within the regional international school community.
