Become a food super hero with SPUR - rescue food that would otherwise end up in a landfill and fight food insecurity by delivering it to local organizations.  Volunteering is a breeze, just find a day and time window that works for you, pick up the prepackaged food from our partners at Shubie's or Crosby's Marketplace, and follow the delivery instructions to drop off at one of our partners.

Each year, over 30% of all food in the U.S. goes unserved and ends up in a landfill.  That's over 133 billion pounds of food annually.  Besides the huge amount of resources wasted in its production, food waste produces large amounts of methane, a powerful and dangerous greenhouse gas.  This wasted food is not just an environmental threat.  It represents a lost opportunity to lessen the burden of food insecurity in our community.

Programs like ours have twice the impact - feeding neighbors in need of a nutritious meal and decreasing our collective environmental impact.

We are working hard to make volunteering even easier, so we've made changes to remove any qualification requirements for signing up.  If you'd like to learn more about this program, any of our programs, or the partners that we support, please feel free to send us an email.

Volunteer with us.
As we begin to close out the growing season in the SPUR Community Roots Garden there is still lots of work to be done.  We need your help to make sure all of this healthy produce gets to the people in our community who need it the most in these final weeks.  Come help us to harvest, and deliver produce every day in October.
Weekly meal deliveries from Root provide neighbors experiencing food insecurity with delicious and nutritious food prepared by students in Root's culinary job training program.  Volunteer to deliver packaged meals on Tuesdays or Wednesday.

Providing a hot, nutritious meal for neighbors facing food insecurity is a fun, easy way to volunteer as a family.  Volunteer with your favorite sous chef to prepare 10 servings of a healthy dinner at home to be served at a local shelter.

Join us in the SPUR office to pin, cut, iron, and sew colorful cotton pillowcases to be used for Bundles of Cheer for the SPUR Holiday Cheer Drive.  Whether you're an experienced seamster or new to needlework, come create with us.
Share some tricks and treats with SPUR!
If you find yourself with extra Halloween candy when all the ghouls and goblins have gone home, drop it off at SPUR's candy collection.  With the help of some volunteers, we will be bagging them as a treat to share with grab-and-go meals at local shelters.  Our office will be open during the following hours for candy drop off:
Tuesday, November 1: 10am - 2pm
Wednesday, November 2: 10am - 2pm and 6pm - 8pm
Thursday, November 3: 10am - 2pm
Friday, November 4: 10am - 2pm and 4pm - 6pm
Saturday, November 5: 3pm - 5pm
