Supporting Farming Hope means transforming lives. It means helping to create individual futures and a collective vision. The stories from our Apprentice graduates are testimony to this. Thank you for being a part of building inclusive communities where all are needed.
Apprentice Larry lived a self-described chaotic life that led to a period of incarceration and addiction and deep involvement in violent gang life. After a series of intense events he decided to turn his life around and to pursue sobriety. He came to Farming Hope seven months sober and ready to re-enter the workforce for the first time in almost a decade, but his history proved to be a major barrier to employment.
In Larry's words:
I had something to look forward to with this Apprenticeship.
No matter how tired I was, I got up in the morning, had my coffee, said my prayers, meditated, set my intentions for the day, and thanked God for giving me one good thing in my life at the time. For giving me the one bright spot in my day before I had to leave and return back to the madness.
The low & quiet hum that I felt gently buzzing inside of my heart when I was able to work with Phil Saneski and the Chefs during the Guest Chef series made me feel electric and alive. Like I was sharing space with masters of the trade who wanted to teach me their craft. After all these months after graduation, and a new job and two promotions later - the residuals of those nights linger.
