THANKSGIVING DAY
It is fitting for God's people to offer public thanks for all the gifts we have received. The bountiful produce of the earth is a visible sign of the many blessings God wants to shower on us through Christ (see Eph. 1.3-10). Our God also wants us to share the goods of the earth with all people.

PRAYER
GOD, whose gifts are countless and whose goodness is without limit, teach us, we pray, to use wisely the rich blessings of land and sea, to be attentive to the needs of others, and to give as freely as we have received, that we may, in the joy of your house, delight one day in eternal rewards.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Collect, Thanksgiving Day, Roman Missal)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL PARISHIONERS!

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

We welcome with great joy into our Christian community the EUNICE YSABELLE ESTRABINIO who was baptized on Saturday, October 1.

EUNICE YSABELLE ESTRABINIO is the baby daughter of Nico and Arlene Estrabinio.

May the almighty Father, who filled the world with joy by giving us his only Son, bless EUNICE YSABELL. May she grow to be more like Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

MONTH OF THE ROSARY
October is designated by the Catholic Church as the "Month of the Rosary" because in this month the Church celebrates the Marian advocation of "Our Lady of the Rosary" on October 7.

You are welcome to join Fr. Rector as he leads us in praying the holy rosary every day from the Cathedral. It will be livestream via our Facebook page and broadcast via FM Radio 102.5. The mysteries of the holy rosary are prayed in different languages English, Latin, Portuguese, Italian and Filipino.
CELEBRATION IN HONOR OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA AND PROCESSION
The Virgin Mary appeared to three children in Fatima, Portugal in 1917. She appeared one time each month starting on May 13 and ending on October 13. The three children were named Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. During her apparitions, Our Lady gave them messages for mankind and secrets about the future.

To honor and celebrate this special event in the life of the Church, the Portuguese-Canadian Community in the City of Prince George has requested that the Mass on the Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time, October 16, 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Cathedral be a celebration that includes a special devotion to Our Lady. And so, following the 11:00 AM Mass that day, there will be a procession of the image of Our Lady within the Church and school grounds.

In preparation, we are looking for three children, ages 8-10 (one boy and two girls) to dress-up like the three shepherd children (Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta). The costumes will be provided. If your child is interested to do this role, please coordinate with Fr. Rector by contacting the parish office.

We are also in need of men who will volunteer to carry the image of Our Lady during the procession. If you think you can do the task of carrying the image of Our Lady, please have your name on the list by contacting the parish office. Attention all men in the parish to really consider being part of this.

Fake Email Messages from the Bishop and Clergy of the Diocese
There have been reports from people receiving emails and text messages pretending to be sent by priests or the bishop and requesting assistance of some kind.  Please DO NOT respond. The emails so far seem to be from fake @gmail.com accounts. Emails from the bishop would come from pgdiocese.bc.ca or pgdiocese.ca. Our advisors have told us that there are no steps we can take to prevent these messages from being sent. All we can do is advise everyone of the problem.

For more information on the many types of phishing messages and how to identify them, please visit this government website: https://www.getcybersafe.gc.ca/en/phishing

READERS, ALTAR SERVERS AND CHOIR
Please see schedule above. If you are not available on the date and time you are assigned, please let Fr. Rector know ahead of time.

OFFERTORY PROCESSION
As announced last Sunday at Mass, individual parishioners and/or families are invited to sign-up their names to bring forward the gifts of bread, wine and the monetary offering during the Procession of the Gifts at Mass.

We encourage the participation of everyone who comes and attends Sunday Mass at the Cathedral. Please choose a particular Sunday and/or Mass time that you and your family want to bring forward the gifts. Sign-up sheet is in the foyer.

VISIT TO THE HOMEBOUND
Fr. Rector tries his best to regularly visit Catholic residents of Fort George Manor (Thursday) and Simon Fraser Lodge (Friday). If you have family members that you want Fr. Rector to visit, please inform him by calling the parish office.  During the visit, Fr. Rector celebrates Liturgy of the Word with Communion. At the request of the residents, he also listens to their confessions and of course, if needed, the Anointing of the Sick.

The Grade 1/2 class marked the feast day of St. Therese of Lisieux, the classroom patron saint, which takes place on October 1. She is a secondary patron of the P.G. Diocese. Her image stands at the back of Sacred Heart Cathedral. St. Therese is known as the Little Flower and is much venerated. Her parents are the only married couple ever canonized together, an event which took place in 2015.  Grade 2/3 students celebrated the feast of St. Vincent de Paul on September 27. K/G1 children will remember their patron, St. Francis of Assisi, on October 4. He is known as the saint of nature and animals with many images depicting him with small birds.

There will be a P.S.G. meeting on October 4 beginning at 6 p.m. Sincere thanks to all those who help with the activities provided for our students.

We now have almost 70 students in training for the annual Cross-Country Meet which is planned for I.C. School on October 5. They are looking forward to the great event with much anticipation!

The Grade 6/7 students will provide the ministries for the monthly School Mass on Friday, October 7 beginning at 9 a.m. This Mass will focus on gratitude and being grateful for the many blessings which have been showered upon us as a parish and school community. All welcome! The monthly School/Parish Mass is planned for October 9 at 11:00 a.m.

During the afternoon of October 7, Ms. Becker will lead an assembly ahead of our annual Terry Fox Walk when we will experience the glories of the fall season while raising funds for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Sacred Heart School students and staff would like to wish our families, parishioners and benefactors a happy Thanksgiving holiday. We also congratulate Mr. Matthew Bellerive on his ordination to the deaconate on October 6.
