Marty's Message

Several universities are said to have invented Homecoming, however most experts credit the University of Missouri who in 1911, invited alumni to attend a football game and celebrate with a campus parade.

You might find it interesting that UW-Stevens Point’s first homecoming happened in 1922. On that fall day 100 years ago, we lost the game to Milwaukee Normal School; however, according to The Pointer newspaper, we hosted the "peppiest prep-meeting and snakiest snake-dance in the history of the city."

Although our 2022 homecoming did not include a snaky snake-dance, we celebrated several accomplished alumni, inducted a new class into the Athletics Hall of Fame; and held the best tailgate party in the history of UWSP–complete with music, food trucks, an obstacle course and many affinity group and alumni tents.

At the CPS alumni tent, we talked with dozens of our alumni, gave out our famous CPS Café cookies, and held a drawing that awarded several CPS scholarships.

Unfortunately just like 100 years ago, we lost the game.

CPS Dean

Home, Sweet, Homecoming

Homecoming
Thanks to all the Pointers who we got to visit with Saturday during Homecoming 2022 as we passed out 300 cookies from the CPS Café while students and alumni registered for three $500 scholarships. Alumni, students, families and friends had a blast with the reunions, an obstacle course, bounce houses, food trucks, live music ... and of course, all the action at the Pointers football game, sponsored by the MBA program!
