Cost of Living guidance for 360Giving publishers

With the cost of living crisis in the UK escalating, and more funders looking at how they can support communities and individuals in response to the crisis, we are considering the role we can play in supporting the sector to manage during this challenging time.

Drawing on the learnings from our response to the pandemic and the need to support an understanding of the collective response, 360Giving will be developing a Cost of Living tracker in the coming months to track funding as it is published.

In the short term, our recent blog provides some initial guidance for funders publishing grants data using the 360Giving Data Standard about how to record cost of living crisis response funding - whether that be in new grants or adjustments to existing ones.

As always, we welcome your feedback on what you’d find useful during this time, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Grantmaking to individuals project: An update

In case you missed it, we’ve been working in partnership with the Association of Charitable Organisations and a steering group of funders to include grants made to individuals in the 360Giving Data Standard.

For context - when we engaged with the sector and 360Giving data and tools users as part of our strategy development in 2021, several people expressed a desire for understanding the grants made to individuals. Now with the cost of living crisis escalating, this work is more important than ever.

This project aims to improve the availability and use of data on grants to individuals to understand trends, inform grantmakers’ strategy and decision-making and better understand the UK funding picture.

The steering group oversaw a consultation in September (which is now closed) for funders to share their views on how to describe grants to individuals. We are now using this feedback to update the 360Giving Data Standard and to develop further guidance and templates for publishing these grants.
