Why Five Moments?

Life is made up of moments and they come in many different forms. We don’t always recognize the significance or appreciate each one like we should. Every Thursday I share some of my favorite moments with you in hopes that we can all live in and appreciate the significance and impact that each moment offers.

Made For This Moment

Moments To Lead

You're busy. You finish one project and you move right onto the next one. You go from here to there. Meeting to meeting. Kids activity to the next kids activity.

Busy is the nature of life. It's almost like we feel like we are failing if we aren't constantly doing something but busyness can cause us to miss opportunities of greater importance.

As you move from one thing to the next don't forget to be aware of the opportunity that may be right in front of you.

A person who may just need a little bit of your time. Just a moment but maybe that moment you take with them will make all of the difference in their day.

Don't miss the opportunity to have an impact. What you do is important but the people that you do it with and for matters more.

Take The Time!

I'm cheering for you.

Moments To Be Better

Kara Lawson: Handle Hard Better

“It never gets easier. We learn to handle hard better.”

Great video by Duke Women’s Basketball Coach Kara Lawson.

Get better at handling hard better.

Moments From Social Media

The video below is from a tweet put out by Texas A&M basketball and features Coach Buzz Williams. Two good quotes in this:

1) “The best thing we do is every day. But the hardest thing we do is every day.”

2) “You can’t let that influence this. You can’t let something over here determine this.”

This is worth a listen.

Coach Petersen is awesome.

#getBETTER: Never Let That Influence This

Moments From What I’ve Read

In this book by Captain D. Michael Abrashoff, Captain Abrashoff explains that people are more likely to speak aggressively than listen aggressively.

When he decided to become an intentional listener, it made a huge difference in him and his team.

Become an intentional listener and listen aggressively.

Moments You Remember

Last Wednesday I was in Manning to meet with some Conference AD’s at a restaurant. The restaurant, Level B, is owned by a former player of mine. I can’t wait to return there in the future.

After the meeting I thought about stopping at the school where I spent 10 years. My good friend and assistant coach, Brad Benton, is still teaching and coaching there.

I had already seen another good friend who stopped into the restaurant so why not try to see another one.

Too many times I would talk myself out of something like this, be in a hurry to get to the next thing and not take advantage of the moment that might be available. I decided to stop and if he was teaching I would have at least tried.

It happened to be his lunch time so we got to talk for about 15 minutes. Great time to reconnect with a guy who was such a big part of our lives during our time there.

I also got to stop in the gym where we had so many good times, visit with the current coach (great coach and guy), and see a couple of additional people as well.

Take advantage of the potential moments you have in front of you. Don’t be in such a hurry to get to whatever is next. The old “stop and smell the roses” philosophy.

I’m glad I stopped.

Thank You for reading and supporting Five Moments.

I appreciate you all so much.

Be Blessed!
