CCHS Newsletter 69

3rd October 2022
Message from the Headteacher
We enjoyed a really busy Open Evening last Thursday and I have to say it was a proud moment to be part of the ‘Codsall’ team.
I would like to take the time to thank all of the staff and students who gave their time and energy in helping the event run smoothly.  I would like to thank you for your continued support as we help the students meet our high expectations. This is a school to be proud of and that in a large part is because the parents and community are ‘part of the team’.
Speaking of teams, we are currently advertising four teaching posts. If you have friends or family that work in education, do give them a nudge to take a look, the most important part of my role is to ensure a full compliment of high quality teachers and I have to say, this is a wonderful school to work in.

Non-Emergency Medical Appointments
We know that students have unavoidably lost learning in recent years but as we return to a sense of normality we would ask parents to make non-emergency medical appointments outside school hours where possible to enable students to be in lessons and focused on learning this year.
Thank you for your support with this.

Many thanks
Year 9 Author Event
Last Wednesday a group of year 9 students had the opportunity  to visit an author event at Wolverhampton Grammar School. Codsall High School works in conjunction with Wolverhampton Grammar School to promote literacy and reading for pleasure through a variety of events.

Author Aisling Fowler was there to talk about her new book Twelve and the Frozen Forest. This is the first book in the Fireborn Trilogy.  Aisling read extracts from the book and the students engaged in various activities from creating their own 'Huntling' character to scene setting.  She gave them a great insight into how the book writing process works for her. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and to purchase signed copies of the book. The students really enjoyed the event and are looking forward to more similar opportunities in the future.
REMINDER - SEND Laptop Collection
If students are entitled to a laptop for exams, and need one for a lesson, they must collect their laptop at the following times:
  • For Period 1 or Period 2    – Before 9am from the SEND Hub
  • For Period 3 or Period 4    – Break time from the SEND Hub
  • For Period 5                       – Lunchtime from the SEND Hub
Collecting and returning the laptop is the responsibility of the student.  If the collection time is missed then a laptop cannot be provided.
The SEND Hub is located in the old Pastoral office opposite M1

Uniform Expectations - Reminder
Last week all students in Years 9 -11 were reminded that as the days become colder, they need to bring in coats.
Students also have the opportunity to add the school jumper to their uniform under their blazers or to wear a plain white t-shirt under their shirts.
As hoodies and sweatshirts are not school uniform students have been made aware that these are not to be worn in school.  If students wear items of clothing that are not uniform, these will be confiscated until the end of the school day.
Please see the following links should you wish to purchase the official school jumper, please visit the websites of Lads and Lasses or Crested Schoolwear.

CCHS have a great working relationship with our current uniform suppliers Lads and Lasses and Crested Schoolwear in Wolverhampton.

Have your circumstances changed recently?
Parents claiming some benefits can claim free school meals for any of their children who are registered at a Staffordshire school and who would normally be at school at lunch time. School meals are a good way to ensure that your child eats well at lunchtime and you can save yourself time and money.

Even if you don't want your children to have the meals, claiming them helps their school. The more eligible parents who claim meals, the more funding the school receives.

The phone number for the free school entitlement checking service team has changed.  Should you need to contact them regarding any claims queries, their number is now 0300 111 8007  option 3, then option 2
