World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2022

We started by counting months, then weeks and now we are down to just days before the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day on 8 October 2022. World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is an annual unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world.

The theme for 2022 is Healing Hearts and Communities. The experience of grief and the need to heal unites humans worldwide. With more than six million deaths worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in tremendous strain on healthcare systems and unprecedented grief and suffering for health workers and caregivers. In addition, several conflicts and wars are taking place around the globe, resulting in millions of families and caregivers grieving the deaths of family and friends, experiencing social isolation and property destruction.

You can find the resource toolkit and several other resources to help you in your events and campaigns HERE.

We would love to know where in the world you will be having your event and also what will be taking place. Please take one minute to add your event on the World Day Global Map by clicking the link https://www.thewhpca.org/world-hospice-and-palliative-care-day/add-event

We are so excited about this day and we can't wait to see and hear about your events.

Global Atlas of Palliative Care

In 2014 the World Health Assembly passed the resolution 67.19, titled “Strengthening of palliative care as a component of comprehensive care throughout the life course.” This resolution for the first time called on all nations to strengthen palliative care and to ensure its availability.

The Global Atlas of Palliative Care is a source of essential information on the status of palliative care worldwide. This second edition of the Global Atlas reveals some of the changes that have occurred since the first edition was published in 2014. For instance, we now have a better idea of how many people need palliative care worldwide.

You can download the new Global Atlas of Palliative Care here.
