Hispanic Heritage Month

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is committed to being a safe and welcoming district for all students, staff, families and community members. In Salem-Keizer schools, 46 percent of students and 14 percent of staff identify as Hispanic and/or Latino/a/x. Each year, SKPS observes National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America. SKPS recognizes and honors Hispanic Heritage Month with a proclamation. Read the proclamation on the district website.

Dual language expansion in Salem-Keizer schools

This year, more students have access to dual language (English/Spanish) instruction in Salem-Keizer Public Schools with four elementary schools and two middle schools being added to the program. Salem-Keizer’s Dual Language Program encourages students to develop multicultural appreciation and awareness, while attaining literacy in both English and Spanish. See more information about enrollment and schools that offer dual language programs on the district website.

Salem-Keizer is committed to preventing bullying

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is committed to providing an environment where students can study, participate in school activities and work in an environment that is free of hazing, harassment, intimidation, discrimination, bullying and menacing. See resources and policies regarding bullying prevention in Salem-Keizer on the district website.
