State Historical Records Advisory Board Awarded Grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission
BISMARCK, N.D. – The State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB), which promotes preservation of historical records throughout North Dakota, was recently awarded a $12,904 grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. With this grant, the State Historical Society is identifying primary and secondary sources at the State Archives that can serve as research material for the National History Day in North Dakota competition administered by the State Historical Society for high school and middle school students.
The grant funded an intern to compile subject guides. These guides help competing students generate ideas for researching North Dakota related topics and using State Archives records. The 2023 competition theme is "Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas." Seventy-eight subject guides are now available relating to this theme and include primary and secondary sources, useful search terms, publications, journal articles, and external sources pertaining to a search topic. The subject guides will soon be available online. A winning project with a North Dakota specific topic at the state competition in April 2023 will be awarded up to $2,000 for travel to the national competition.
