Happy Friday Night!
Tonight I'm digging into my archives and sharing one of my popular previous tutorials - lifelines! If you don't feel comfortable fixing knitting mistakes, then utilizing lifelines in your knitting can be a game-changer and can make you feel much more confident in all your knitting endeavors. Learn more about it tonight!

Also, my Brookdale KAL Workshop starts this coming Thursday, October 6th with a Kick-Off Zoom meet-up (and then cast-on begins October 9th). Have you been thinking of joining but haven't registered yet? Now's the time - keep reading for all the info you need.
A lifeline is a piece of scrap yarn you insert into a row of stitches in your work. This secures the stitches so should you need to rip out your work, you can just rip back to the lifeline and then easily transfer the stitches back onto your knitting needle without worrying about dropping any stitches along the way.
Above image shows me ripping out yarn to the "lifeline".
So it won't prevent the initial mistake from happening, but it helps you get back to a point before the mistake happened without causing additional problems (so that you can have a "do-over"). It's like working with a safety net that will catch your fall!

When to use lifelines

You can insert a lifeline whenever you might be afraid that in the next section of knitting you may make a mistake or you may need to undo something. They are most commonly used in lace knitting (since lace can be tricky to fix even for the more advanced knitter), but you can use them in any situation.
My blog post dives deeper into lifelines and includes a photo tutorial of the whole process. Click the button below to learn more!
