Dear <<First Name>>,

Today, we mark the losses suffered by the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. We reflect on our historic role in the mistreatment and genocide suffered by many of the people who’s land we still inhabit to this day.

Moving forward, with the Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, we take another step on the process towards true reconciliation, where Governments can work together and create a Canada that is for everyone.

Reconciliation cannot exist without an open, and honest dialogue. Let’s have that dialogue today and every day.

I encourage everyone to wear orange in recognition of the harm the residential school system did and to symbolize a commitment to ensure that everyone matters.

Here are some things I'd like to share with you from the past week:
New health workforce strategy improves access to health care, puts people first

Improving care for people in B.C. is central to investments in workers. We’re launching a health human resources strategy to optimize the health system, expand training and further improve recruitment and retention. This strategy will support patients who rely on the public health-care system by adding more doctors, nurses and health sciences professionals, adding new education and training seats, taking actions to improve retention and to optimize the system to help with workload.

Families will save big as child care fees cut as much as $550 more per month

Child care is one of the biggest bills that a family can face each month, and global inflation is making life more expensive around the world. British Columbians need a break, and we’re focused on helping families make ends meet. Starting in December, parents in BC will save up to $550 per month for each child they have in licensed childcare centres. Cutting child care fees again is one more action we’re taking to put money back in people’s pockets at a time when rising global inflation is making life more expensive.

Free transit for kids rolls on for B.C. families

We’re celebrating one year of providing free public transit for kids 12 and younger. Free transit for kids will make life more affordable for families and help reduce carbon emissions by offering a cleaner way to get around communities. By providing free transit for kids 12 & younger, we’re helping parents keep money in their pockets.

Programs support families, make sport more accessible

When kids are active through sport, they’re physically and mentally healthier and more connected to their community. In honour of  KidSport BC week, which runs from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, 2022, the Government of B.C. renews its commitment and support for children and youth in the province.

“Sport is a great equalizer. It has the power to heal, to promote good health and to lead children and youth to brighter futures. No child should be benched because of their family’s finances. That’s why we’re investing in several programs, to take the financial barriers out of the game,” said Melanie Mark, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.
