East End United e-blast

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This day honours the indigenous first peoples of this land, the Survivors of residential schools as well as their families and communities, and commemorates with mourning the children who never returned home. Public acknowledgement and observance of this tragic and painful history and the ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Also known as Orange Shirt Day, people across Canada wear orange and participate in and host events to commemorate this day.

Orange Shirt Day originates with Phyllis Webstad from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation. In 1973, on her first day at St. Joseph’s Residential School in Williams Lake, BC, Phyllis’s new orange shirt was ripped away from her. Four decades later, on September 30th, 2013, Phyllis spoke publicly for the first time about her experience, thus launching the Orange Shirt Day movement: https://www.orangeshirtday.org/

Sunday Worship October 2nd, 2022 10:30am
5th Sunday of Creation Time

Online and In-person only at Eastminster Campus - 310 Danforth Avenue

Season of Creation Time
A time to celebrate the wisdom given to us in nature.
A time to wonder at the intricacies of life all around us.
A time to revel in the awesomeness of our Creator.

In this time of deep anxiety for Mother Earth what can we learn about ourselves by listening to the forests, rocks and trees?
Why did Jesus retreat to the wilderness for 40 days before starting his ministry?
What can we learn by listening to the wind and attending to the creatures that fly, crawl and run across our planet?
What mysteries are revealed in the deep space images from the JWST?

Come join for the fifth and last Sunday in the season of creation time.

Nourish East End Hosted the first Community Dinner since Covid, on Monday September 26th!
Nourish East End is excited to be bringing back our Community Dinners, after a 1000 day hiatus! COVID-19 has been difficult for so many in our community, and we have missed being able to share a meal with our neighbours. Thanks to the hardwork of our dedicated volunteers, we were able to serve 54 meals this past Monday (Sept. 26th) at our first Community Dinner back, since the start of COVID-19.
We had over ten volunteers cooking, serving, and greeting our neighbours who joined us for a delicious meal of Enchiladas and Rice!

Community Dinners will be taking place every fourth Monday of the month, and we are excited to open our doors again, on October 24th, for our next Community Dinner.  Open to all; members of our congregation welcome!
Falling for Pie - a Fundraiser in support of East York Strategy
As a pie lover and former supporter of East York Strategy we thought you might like to know that Pie Day is returning once again just in time for Thanksgiving weekend! On October 7th, we are offering homemade, fresh pies. Follow the link below to request pumpkin, blueberry, cherry, pecan, apple and lemon meringue pies. Each pie is $25 and includes free delivery within the GTA if you would like. You may also purchase a slice of any pie for $5. Pie pick-up is also available if it is easier for you.

Your support in our Pie Day Fundraiser means a lot and helps to offset the cost of our free summer camp and helps get our fall programs up and running. Thank you once again for your support in the past and of course let us know if you have any questions! If you know of others that might be interested, feel free to pass along the order form!

Trees and Creation: Workshops in Meditation and Art
Tuesday afternoon, from 1-3pm, October 4th, Jennifer Palin will lead small groups contemplating "Trees". First, we'll share insights from scripture, then contemplate art, and then use our own creativity while making cards from pieces of "nature", to gain deeper understanding in to how we are connected to trees as fellow creatures within God's Creation.
