Sunday at DCC

Worship All Together: One Sunday Service at 10:30 a.m.
Live-Streamed on the DCC YouTube Channel

On World Communion Sunday the global church makes itself more fully aware of our communion, and we recognize our interconnectedness. We remember that on the road to Emmaus, the disciples recognized Jesus in a stranger’s face at the table as they conversed and broke bread. In the same way, we trust that God reveals God’s self to us when we share stories around the table. Join us this Sunday to listen to the unique stories of communion from our community members and how each story can reveal the holy among us. Luke 24.13-35

World Communion Sunday
Peace and Global Witness Offering

World Communion Sunday celebrates the diversity and unity of Christian churches around the world. You are invited to join in this joyful celebration and wear clothing that reflects your cultural connections and heritage.

Davis Community Church will receive the Peace & Global Witness Offering, one of four annual denominational offerings. This offering enables the church to promote the peace of Christ by addressing systems of injustice in our own communities and across the world th
rough collaborative projects of education and Christian witness.
Read more about one project..

To participate you may:
  • Make a contribution at the worship service. Look for ushers at the doors as you exit.
  • Contribute online. Choose Specific Donation Fund: PCUSA Peace and Global Witness.
  • Send a check to DCC at 412 C St., Davis, CA 95616  Memo: Peace & Global Witness.
  • Text "Peace" to (530)771-6010. You will be prompted for additional information.
Thank you for your participation in the Peace & Global Witness Offering!

Good News! The COVID Community Level has dropped from MEDIUM to LOW. COVID Community Transmission, which refers to healthcare facilities, remains SUBSTANTIAL. For now, we continue to require masks at the Sunday worship service. Masks remain "recommended" for those over age 60 and for those in fragile health.
Yolo County Health Department

DCC's Session will review our current COVID precautions at its October meeting. We will let you know of any changes.

Vaccination Required
We continue to require full vaccination, including one booster shot, or testing within 72 hours of events at DCC. Additional booster shots are recommended for all who are eligible.

10:30 a.m. service: N95, KN95 or KN94 masks continue to be required. This precaution provides protection for vulnerable congregants and allows young, unvaccinated children to be in the Sanctuary.

On Campus – Masking Highly Recommended
DCC's Session continues to HIGHLY RECOMMEND, but not require, masking indoors as we return to our in-person activities. Having said that, groups are encouraged to discuss and agree to the precautions they will take so that everyone in the group feels safe. Groups may choose to require more, but not less, stringent precautions.

Read the full statement here.

Sunday School
Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Children's Ministry COVID Precautions
For all who attend Sunday School, we require proof of full vaccination, including booster shots for all who
are eligible.

Discovery Time (DT) is a short in-person Bible story time offered in the Sanctuary during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service, and is followed by Sunday School. Children attending DT will be asked to follow the same COVID precautions as those attending the service: i.e., full vaccination (as eligible) or testing within 72 hours of events at DCC, and high-quality masks. Everyone age 2 and over will be required to wear an N95, KN95 or KF94 mask while indoors. We have additional masks of this kind on hand.

For children who do not wish to go into the Sanctuary for DT, or who cannot be vaccinated or test, childcare will be provided outdoors and DT will be available for you to watch from home on the DCC YouTube channel. For all children attending Sunday School or other childcare sessions, please be sure to bring proof of vaccination for your children, or email a photo of their card to
 kate@dccpres.org.

DCC Bell Choir News: Honoring Norma!
We honor the legacy and the blessing of Norma Meyer, whose bell-directing tenure since 1977 launched many a ringer and fostered a very solid, talented bell choir. Norma was recognized in worship September 25, for her outstanding leadership. We wish her well as she takes a well-deserved rest from every Wednesday night commitments! Blessings, Norma!

Please welcome interim Bell Director, Rev. Deb Grundman has been hired. Deb comes with over 30 years of bell-ringing and directing experience serving as an ordained minister of music in the United Methodist Church. She lives in Woodland where she directs the Glory Shakers at the United Methodist Church.

Deb's family includes husband, Gary, two sons, and two grandsons. Along with music, Deb enjoys traveling and quilting. Deb looks forward to sharing together with the DCC Bell Choir and prays their sharing enhances your
worship experience.

All in the Family
Please join us for a celebration of life for Rachel Kessler on Saturday, November 5 at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary. A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall....Cynthia Gerber is home from New York and a visit with the newest Gerber. Eleanor Louise (LuLu) Gerber was born to JB and Robyn Gerber on August 28. Cynthia and LuLu's sister, Mickey, are smitten!

There are many who are suffering in grief, anticipatory grief and illness in our midst. Please hold those who are suffering, named and unnamed, in your prayers.

Congregational Meeting
DCC's Session has called a congregational meeting for Sunday, October 16 after the worship service at
11:40 a.m. The purpose is to vote to approve Barbara Greene as Ruling Elder on the DCC Session, our governing board. Barbara has served previously and is nominated to step in to an unexpired term vacated by Emily March.

Having a quorum is essential so we can take a vote and enable the Session to move on with important work! Please plan to attend this brief but important meeting!
JoAnn Diel, Clerk of Session

Announcing a New Website!
Davis Community Church has a new website at the same address: www.dccpres.org. The new site is an important outreach to newcomers and to people who are curious about DCC. Our aim is to make the new site image-driven, user friendly, and transparent regarding our values as a Christian congregation in the 21st century. On the administrative end, we sought a platform that is easily updated, which will make it easier to
keep current.

We want to thank Kate Boxeth for her work on this project. Kate gathered input from numerous people and professional sources. She did the research and reconciled many varying viewpoints. We are grateful for Kate's vision and patience! We will be working to smooth out any bumps in the weeks ahead. Please be patient as we navigate the learning curve.

Update: Interim Pastor Nominating Committee
Your IPNC (Moira Acosta, Hanna Bartman, Marian Derby, Katie Georgely, Leslyn Skog, Charlotte Zhang), with the support of Pastor Mike Umbenhaur from the Presbytery, has been hard at work searching for our interim pastor. IPNC has been meeting at least one a week since the week of August 8.

We have been blessed to have wonderful candidates to consider. IPNC believes we will find someone with significant expertise to support our congregation through this time of transition. While we wish we could be giving an update that someone has accepted the call, both the candidates and IPNC are being intentional with the discernment process.

IPNC does wish to share with you an overview of what has been occurring to reassure you that thoughtful progress is being made. Here is an overview

  • We invited five candidates to be considered for the interim position.

    • Three individuals the Presbytery identified for us and two individuals we independently identified as possible candidates.

  • One candidate declined the invitation as they are still completing a call at a different congregation.

  • Four candidates who accepted our offer were interviewed, using questions that were developed with the input of staff and ministry chairs.

    • We strived to evaluate our candidates in an intentional way that reduced bias and can help us objectively evaluate whether a candidate should be considered further.

  • Of the four candidates, one candidate removed themself from the process after accepting a call at another congregation.

  • Based on our evaluation of the interviews, we proceeded moving into the next part of the process with our top candidates.

  • The next steps in the process included a one-on-one with Pastor Eunbee and additional conversations with IPNC Session members (Moira Acosta, Hanna Bartman, Katie Georgely, and Leslyn Skog).

  • Understanding that these are significant decisions for all parties involved, one candidate, upon request, visited DCC to help with their discernment process, and final conversations with candidates are in progress.

As IPNC works on securing an interim pastor, we appreciate the congregation's support and patience. We understand that this process may be longer than we desired and have reached out to the Presbytery for assistance. We are now exploring options on how to support the congregation, especially our amazing staff, while our search process continues. Should there be updates to our process or additional support that we can share, we will be sure to let you know.

Voting:Statewide Ballot Measures
with Timm Herdt
Sunday, October 16, 12 noon
after the congregational meeting
DCC Library

There are 7 statewide propositions on the ballot this fall for the November 8 General Election. It can be confusing! Timm Herdt will explain each proposition, provide some context, and review which groups are supporting and opposing each measure. Timm suggests you have your voter guide on hand so you can refer to it and make notes. He will NOT tell you how to vote!

Timm Herdt is a retired political reporter and columnist for Scripps Howard News Service who spent the last 20 years of his career working out of Sacramento covering California public affairs and politics. He won numerous awards for reporting on a variety of subject areas, including business, the environment, health care, and explanatory journalism. For many years he presented similar sessions for the Ventura County League of Women Voters. The videos were distributed to League chapters around the state and shown on local public-interest TV channels. Timm lives in Davis with his wife, Julie, who works on the church staff.
