The latest astronomy news and events from ICRAR

In this issue:
We're nearing the end of 2022 and it's been an exciting few months. Our researchers have won astronomical prizes from Australian Laureate Fellowships to Premier's Science Awards and many others.

We said farewell to our inaugural Executive Director, Professor Peter Quinn, and welcomed Prof Lister Staveley-Smith as our interim ED.

Coming up next week is Astrofest, held at Curtin University from 5:30pm Saturday 29th October. You can visit the ICRAR stall inside Curtin Stadium and ask your curly astro questions, look through telescopes on the oval, or attend one of the many science talks at the John Curtin Gallery.

2. Beyond Astronomy

Our researchers engage with industry, government, non-government organisations, communities and community organisations to translate our research beyond academia to benefit society.
ICRAR-Curtin will welcome a chapter visit from Engineers Australia to showcase some current engineering projects within the space realm. More radio astronomy visualisations are in the pipeline, featuring themes such as pulsars and globular clusters.

ICRAR celebrated the long-awaited first images from James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) through a unique national live event and a public lecture. These first images continue to inspire our researchers who are working with the data and transforming our understanding for the future.
We are always looking to further develop key partnerships in translation and impact opportunities. Head to our website for more details.

3. Community Outreach

National Science Week was a blast, with ICRAR involved in events all over the city. Dr Sabine Bellstedt gave an engaging free talk on the history of astronomy at UWA's Octagon Theatre, thanks to an Inspiring Australia grant.

ICRAR outreach also took the Beyond the Milky Way VR documentary to the Murchison region, including the Mount Magnet Astrorocks Fest, the Murchison Settlement and Mullewa. The VR experience was loved by young and old and their canine friends.
