THIS SATURDAY: CREATE YOUR OWN LANTERN FROM 11AM TO 4PM

An opportunity to spend a Saturday getting creative with sustainable materials.

It's officially lantern season and we couldn’t find a better way to start it than during the Great Big Green Week!

We are running a ‘Create your own lantern’ workshop this Saturday at Templars Square shopping center from 11am to 4pm. All ages and abilities are welcome!!
Lanterns are made of willow and tissue paper and it takes roughly one hour to make one. You can take them and dry them at home or leave them with us until the end of the session.

Bring your own bike light or a small lamp to illuminate your finished creation.

This workshop is a warm-up for the Oxford's Lights Festival which will take place the 3rd weekend of November, click here for information about last year’s event.

September brought new and exciting artwork to the #WindowGalleries!

The Freshwater Habitats Trust, The Parasol Project, Storymakers and a new friend of Fusion’s - Joyful Co. Ltd.

Artistic Ecology: Fusion Arts has partnered with Freshwater Habitats Trust to display the work produced during a range of artistic events as part of their GrowWet project. It has resulted in a range of imagery inspired by the plight of rare wetland plants and their conservation today.

Monsters Galore: The Parasol Project is an Oxford based charity committed to redressing the balance for disabled and disadvantaged children & young people experiencing social exclusion. This summer a dedicated team at Parasol and Artists from the Fusion team have been providing brilliant workshops for 5-19yr olds exploring the wonderful world of monsters, mythology and make believe.

Stories of Home: This summer, children and staff at Wood Farm Primary School met each week and, through a range of sensory media, imaginatively explored what it is to 'feel at home'. The Story Makers brought their visions to life, creating sculpture, mosaic, drawings, paintings and writing.

Creative Craft Kits: Fusion Arts has partnered with Joyful Co. Ltd. Sisters Clare and Alice produce eco-craft kits for children & adults. They have put together a display of ingenious creations to inspire others to take part in sustainable creative learning and craft for supporting wellbeing.

The September displays will be on display in the #WindowGalleries along Friars Entry in Oxford, OX1 2BZ from the 12th September until the 7th October, free and available to visit at any time.

Happening now in Oxford

Two exhibitions highly recommended by the Fusion Arts team.

Ferocious Grace

In this, her first solo exhibition, Usha dapur Kar communicates the profound impact of institutional racism in the workplace on a woman of colour.

Through a series of 30 paintings Usha explores the specific dissonance experienced when this occurs in the not-for-profit sector. She looks through the dual prism of a prolonged and intense episode of racism in her personal lived experience, framing the period when her mother died during lockdown, and COCo’s research on the topic (summarized in a diagram The “Problem” Woman of Colour in the Workplace). Check more information about this exhibition here.

Ferocious Grace will be on display until 5th of November at the Old Fire Station, free admission.

Sensational books

'Sensational Books' explores our experiences of the book beyond reading. This exhibition unlocks a whole world of sensory engagement with books structured around six senses of sight, sound, taste, smell, touch and proprioception (the sense of self-movement and body-perception). Using dynamic and interactive elements from sound artists, tactile displays and even a smell wall, visitors are able to celebrate the book in all its forms. You can also see how early books and manuscripts engaged with the senses in ways similar to more recent works by book artists in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The Bodleian libraries are showing this exhibition in the Weston Library until 4th December - find more details on their website.
