“Committed to ending human trafficking and sexual exploitation by raising awareness through the media and grassroots mobilization, education, advocacy and policy.”

Dear Warrior:

'Silence is complicit’ comes from the phrase ‘silence is an act of complicity’ which means that to remain silent is to be complicit in the act.

This can have several meanings. It can mean that to remain silent while someone is attacked, hurt or physically harmed is to be complicit in the hurting. Watching someone being harmed without doing anything to stop it makes you responsible in some way for the harm caused. It can mean that to remain silent while someone is harmed, bullied, coerced is to allow that harm to continue.

This is what it means to the Warriors. It means speaking up when we see so many things we disagree with. It means speaking up when we have something truly worthwhile to say by sharing facts, truths and well-vetted information with the public. It means being held accountable to our beliefs through our actions, words and relationships with others. It means showing up. It means thinking of all the dedicated and committed individuals, nonprofits, organizations and elected officials who have come before us and who are now working in the name of child safety who weren’t and aren’t afraid to speak up and take action.

There is hope on so many fronts to protect children and all people. We must think this way. We cannot allow ourselves to be swallowed up by the current overwhelming environment. It’s not easy, I know. We must remain resolute in our faith that good will overcome evil. We must remain steadfast that we will update and change Big Tech. New legislation and take actions to protect children are at the forefront right now in Congress. There are many vocal and hardworking Warriors that will remind these companies, and their advertisers, that we will not allow them to profit at the expense of our children. The predators are counting on us to become exhausted by their constant and escalating actions on a daily basis. It is indeed hard to keep up but we will. However, if the last week in the life of the Warriors is any indication of making progress, then we can say that change is in the air.

The Warriors attended and hosted meetings about state and federal legislation, conducted in-depth discussions with elected officials, met with kids and teens to talk about what’s happening in their world today, hosted our radio program, guested on news programs, created a new and easy tool kit to get the public involved in child safety issues and attended and spoke at a beautiful event about the need for everyone to become a Warrior in their own home to protect their children.

                 Community Creates Change

It’s 2022. There is a war on for children. They are today’s currency. However, the advocacy and outreach about human trafficking and sexual exploitation have never been greater. The education about digital safety and resources, many for free, has never been greater. The brave survivors willingly coming forward to share their lived experiences with the public in order to prevent others from falling victim to this same abuse must be recognized and applauded. The daily discussion among coalitions on how to make this world safer for kids has never been greater. The bipartisan work being done right now in our government to confront child safety online and in real-time has never been greater. The public awareness about child sexual exploitation has never been greater. There are so many dedicated people on a mission today to prevent this exploitation.

It's the beginning of a new season. Let us not focus on the why this all happening. I know this is asking a lot. We must take our energies and focus on change, prevention and holding those accountable who cause harm to children. I ask myself constantly why do we have to fight so hard to protect our children. After all, any abuse, human trafficking, sexual exploitation, CSAM (child sexual abuse material) online involving a child is already a crime. We don’t have all the answers. We do know that the bottom line is there is little accountability for those causing harm and unimaginable amounts of money being made. This is the ugly reality. And the truth is that we will do everything in our power to protect our children.

LET’S FOCUS ON TAKE ACTION NOT REACTION.
So, what are we to do?

Engage. Educate. Empower ourselves and our children.

Sound the Alarm. September is National Preparedness Month. Does your family have an emergency plan in place? This week it is expected that Hurricane Ian will have tremendous impact on Florida. Disasters can cause families to be unexpectedly separated no matter where they live. Talking with your children about what you will do is an important first step to family planning.

“Children who become separated from their loved ones during and following a disaster are at an increased risk of trauma. Coping with anxiety and stress are much more difficult in the absence of those who know the child’s individual needs. Children separated from their parents or legal guardians are more vulnerable to maltreatment, abuse, abduction, and sexual exploitation. “ – NCMEC

DEA agents worried as brightly colored fentanyl pills target kids
WARNING! Be on the lookout for rainbow-colored fentanyl.
Talk to your kids.

WASHINGTON – The Drug Enforcement Administration is advising the public of an alarming emerging trend of colorful fentanyl available across the United States. In August 2022, DEA and our law enforcement partners seized brightly-colored fentanyl and fentanyl pills in 18 states. Dubbed “rainbow fentanyl” in the media, this trend appears to be a new method used by drug cartels to sell highly addictive and potentially deadly fentanyl made to look like candy to children and young people.

“Rainbow fentanyl—fentanyl pills and powder that come in a variety of bright colors, shapes, and sizes—is a deliberate effort by drug traffickers to drive addiction amongst kids and young adults,” said DEA Administrator Anne Milgram. “The men and women of the DEA are relentlessly working to stop the trafficking of rainbow fentanyl and defeat the Mexican drug cartels that are responsible for the vast majority of the fentanyl that is being trafficked in the United States.”
