MEETING ROOMS

Private meeting rooms can be booked for 45 minutes beginning at the top of the hour, Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a reservation. Reservations must be made online here.
"A MAN WHO CHANGED THE VINEYARD" PANEL DISCUSSION
•••   On Saturday, October 8, at 3pm, come to the library for an in-person conversation on the life and legacy of Dr. Milton Mazer, a psychiatrist and medical doctor, whose groundbreaking work in rural mental health issues helped to found MV Community Services. Panelists will include Mike Colaneri, Tony Earls, Tom Bennett, and Peter Kramer.  Clips from a documentary by Ann Bassett of MVTV on Dr. Mazer will also be shown. The panel discussion will be led by Dr. Charles H. Silberstein. Please click here for more info about the event. No sign up required. Those who attend the event will receive a free copy of David's Slingshot a collection of Dr Mazer's letters published in book form thanks to a Cultural Council grant.
OCTOBER ART EXHIBIT
•••   The work of mixed media artist Lauraye White will be on display in the library's Community Room starting October 11. The reception date and more info are coming soon!
LEARNING LAB
•••   Teens and kids ages 12+ are invited to the Young Adult Room after school for Learning Lab. Learning Lab is open Mondays-Fridays from 3-5pm. Email Young Adult Librarian Laura Hearn with any questions: lhearn@clamsnet.org.
PAPER BAGS NEEDED
•••    The Friend's of the West Tisbury Library are in need of clean paper bags (with handles!). Paper bag donations can be dropped off at their sheds at the West Tisbury School. Thank you!

STARTING TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4, at 5 PM: KNITTING GROUP (in-person)
•••   All are welcome to join the library’s new Knitting Group on Tuesdays at 5pm. Join librarian Lyn for a relaxing hour of creativity and conversation. Help yourself to supplies provided by the library or bring your own supplies from home or another project you are working on. This group is open to adults and teens, and all levels are welcome. No sign up is required.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5, at 10:30 AM: TRADITIONAL STORYTIME (in-person)
•••   Children’s librarian Mikaela will be hosting a weekly in-person storytime. Families are invited to come listen to and enjoy books, both new and old, with some songs thrown in the mix. This storytime is designed for toddlers and young kids, but all ages are welcome! No sign up required.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5, at 3 PM: VIRTUAL REALITY FOR TWEENS & TEENS (in-person)
•••   Join us Wednesdays from 3-5 pm for VR in the Young Adult Room. The library’s Oculus VR will be set up for 10-15 minute of use per person with age appropriate games. This program is for ages 10-18. Please sign-up once you arrive.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5, at 4:30 PM: THE CRAFT OF POETRY (online via Zoom)
•••   Led by West Tisbury Poet Laureate Tain Leonard-Peck. We will focus on building the fundamentals of crafting poetry, through analyzing original pieces submitted by workshop participants. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6, at 11:30 AM: EMPOWERING WELLBEING WORKSHOP (online via Zoom)
•••    Shanta Gabriel will lead her weekly Empowering Wellbeing Workshop through the fall. In this class, you will receive simple yet profound exercises that will help you feel more aligned and nourished in your daily life. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7, at 11:30 AM: VIRTUAL BALANCE CLASS (online via Zoom)
•••    Kanta Lipsky will continue her virtual Balance Classes on Mondays and Fridays at 11:30 AM. In this class, we will explore ways to strengthen our connection to the earth and increase our bodies’ ability to maintain good balance. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8, at 10:30 AM: ADULT COMMUNITY DANCE CLASS (in-person)
•••    Join Jesse Keller Jason's in-person dance on Saturdays from 10:30-11:30am. Each class includes a guided warm-up, upbeat movement sequences, and space for the dancers’ own creativity. All levels are welcome! No sign up needed to attend.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8, at 11 AM: ROCK CONCERT FOR KIDS WITH THE PINKLETINKS (in-person, outdoors)
•••    Families and kids of all ages are invited to a rock concert featuring the island band, The Pinkletinks! The musicians will be playing rock versions of classic children's songs. Come enjoy live music and dancing! No sign up required to attend. Meets on the Children's Porch.

•••    Second Sunday Jazz is back! Come to a live, in-person jazz concert featuring the Eric Johnson trio with Tauras Biskis on drums and Hugh Burrows on electric bass.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, at 6:30 PM: WRITERS READ (online via Zoom)
•••    This monthly event, led by Niki Patton, features community members reading short original prose pieces. Both fiction and nonfiction readings are welcome. Each reader is allotted eight minutes to read. Critique to follow reading is optional. Sign up to be a reader or listener at this event by emailing Niki at gaia1muse@gmail.com.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12, at 7:30 AM: CHAIR YOGA AND MEDITATION CLASS (online via Zoom)
•••    All levels and ages are invited to chair yoga and meditation led by Jason Mazar-Kelly (YogiJay) on Wednesdays. In this class, participants will be guided through seated and moving meditations utilizing the support and assistance of a chair. All you will need for this class is an armless chair and a place to put it. Please click here to sign up.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12, at 4:30 PM: LYME VACCINE PRESENTATION (in-person)
•••   Come to a short presentation on ticks and Lyme Disease as well as a detailed discussion of a clinical trial for vaccination against Lyme Disease. Casey Bridgeford and Gerhart Keller of Care Access will be presenting. Care Access is a healthcare company which brings clinical trial opportunities from traditional research sites directly to communities. Their mission is to make cutting edge therapies and interventions available to all individuals, stressing diversity and inclusion in research. No sign up required.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, at 4 PM: PRESENTATION BY TWEED ROOSEVELT  (in-person)
•••    Tweed Roosevelt, great grandson of Theodore Roosevelt, will continue his program series titled, “Tales of TR – The Continuing Story.” This month, Tweed will give a talk titled, “TR – Failed Cattle Baron." The Cattle Bonanza is a fascinating story of greed, murder, and broken dreams. TR was a player in this enormous saga. Learn how the story of the West really played out and how TR lost half his fortune and was forced to find a new path to his future. No sign up needed to attend.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14, at 7:30 AM: YOGA CLASS WITH JASON MAZAR-KELLY (online via Zoom)
•••    Join our weekly all-levels Kripalu Flow Yoga led by Jason Mazar-Kelly (Yogijay). Classes focus on soothing the nervous system through a combination of movement, breathwork, and meditation. This class is accessible to all levels and is a fun way to wake up while starting the day with a sense of peace in these times of uncertainty.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, at 6 PM: VIRTUAL TALK - THE GALILEO PROJECT (online via Zoom)
•••   Join the MV Libraries for a virtual talk, The Galileo Project: In Search for Technological Interstellar Objects, with Avi Loeb, Professor of Science, Harvard University. The recently announced “Galileo Project” ushers the new frontier of “space archeology” in search of extraterrestrial technological relics. SEED SAVING AT THE HARVEST FESTIVAL

•••   Come visit the MV Community Seed Library booth at the Harvest Festival at the Agricultural Hall. Donate and/or borrow seeds from the cabinet and learn how to process seeds. Please bring plant material you’d like to save seeds from and ask your seed saving questions. No sign up needed!
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22, at 3 PM: AUTHOR TALK WITH GERALDINE BROOKS (in-person)
•••    Join us at the library for an author talk with Pulitzer Prize-winner Geraldine Brooks. Geraldine will read from her newly released novel, Horse. Books will be available to purchase from Bunch of Grapes Bookstore.

•••    All are invite to the library's annual Halloween Party! Come in costume, hop on a hayride, play some games, paint a pumpkin, and munch on some spooky refreshments. All ages are welcome!

•••    Join us in the Community Room for a Halloween party for teens and tweens! Wear your costume and join us for games, contests, snacks and more. This program is geared towards ages 10-18. There is no sign up required to attend.

•••    The Martha’s Vineyard Library Association has partnered with Brainfuse, a national online education company, to provide free online tutoring and homework help to all Martha's Vineyard library cardholders.
