ABC7 News With temperatures climbing yet again this week, the power grid isn't the only thing strained. According to an ABC7 analysis of the most recent data, more than a third of families in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties had to reduce basic necessities, such as food or medicine, to pay an energy bill.
Energy Institute at Haas A new report shows that households served by California’s three large investor-owned utilities (IOUs) pay an average of nearly $700 per year in what we call an “electricity tax.” For customers of Pacific Gas & Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric, this “tax” is about two-thirds of customer bills on average, and it is around half for Southern California Edison customers. 
PV Magazine VPPs represent an innovative way to efficiently use distributed solar and storage, offering savings and backup power to renters. In California, PearlX and Sunnova, among others, are launching services that connect renters with solar, backup energy storage, and bill savings.

2022 Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) Joint Symposium
California Energy Commission (CEC) - The California Energy Commission (CEC), Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Southern California Edison Company (SCE), and San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E) will host a one-day hybrid symposium on Tuesday, October 4th from 9am-4pm, to explore the latest technology and policy innovations in California. 
The symposium is a free, one-day event that highlights clean energy research projects funded by EPIC. This event also offers informational sessions and networking opportunities with high-powered speakers, industry leaders, and researchers. Learn more here!

Grid and Transmission Programs Conductor
California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) - The Grid and Transmission Programs Conductor acts as a clearinghouse for GDO’s transmission and grid resilience financing programs made available through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Act and Inflation Reduction Act, as well as other existing DOE transmission and grid programs. The Conductor's goal is to provide resources and open lines of communication to maximize the effectiveness of these programs and work with state and local governments, tribes and territories, utility and industry partners, and other stakeholders to catalyze the development of a resilient, modern grid and transmission infrastructure for a reliable, affordable, and clean energy future. Learn more about the Grid and Transmission Programs Conductor here!

California Automated Permit Processing Program - CalAPP
California Energy Commission (CEC) - From now until May 1, 2023, local government agencies in California can apply to adopt an online, automated solar permitting platform such as SolarAPP+! Administered by California Energy Commission, there are millions of dollars in grant funding available. Please review the Solicitation Manual and Terms and Conditions prior to completing an application. These documents and the application form can be accessed via the link provided in the Solicitation Information on their website.
