Hello storytelling friends!

Just a week away!

“Red Talks” presented by Speak Up and Confessions of a Menstruator

October 8 at 7:00 PM at the Connecticut Historical Society.

Confessions of a Menstruator and Speak Up are proud to present the first-ever “Red Talks,” a storytelling show featuring honest, heartfelt, and even hilarious stories about periods and everything they involve.

By sharing our stories, we destigmatize menstruation and normalize the conversation. This event is the national kickoff for “Red Talks,” a celebration of menstruators’ shared experiences. Life’s most natural cycle has made us laugh, cry and eat a lot of cupcakes.

Everyone, join us on October 8 to hear stories of women, men, and all those who love them.

$20 per person. Light refreshments will be provided. Click here to buy your tickets!

Our cast of storytellers is FANTASTIC. It includes:

Bethany Van Delft was voted Boston's best comic in 2019 and 2020. Bethany is a regular host for The Moth StorySlams & GrandSlams, and her own Moth mainstage story "Light & Hope" garnered 15 million views. The story is also included in The Moth's book "All These Wonders." Her latest projects include hosting iHeart Radio's kids news podcast, The Ten News, and co-hosting the digital series by NOVA/PBS "PARENTALOGIC" alongside Dr. Alok Patel.

Erin Barker is the executive director and a founding board member of The Story Collider, an international storytelling organization that produces a popular podcast and more than 60 live events every year featuring true, personal stories about science, with the goal of showing that science is a vibrant part of all our lives. As a storyteller, Erin is the first woman to win The Moth's GrandSLAM storytelling competition twice. She has appeared on PRX's The Moth Radio Hour, and one of her stories was included in the New York Times-bestselling book The Moth: 50 True Stories.

Ellen Last is a veteran Speak Up storyteller and an experience design consultant at Slalom Hartford where she works to help local organizations design products and services around the humans for which they are intended. She has told many stories for Speak Up and earned much-favored status amongst our audience. When she's not working or parenting (which is never), she's bargain shopping, whipping up a new recipe, or listening/reading to the next business/self-help book on her list.

Matthew Dicks is an elementary school teacher, columnist, and internationally bestselling author of several novels as well as the nonfiction titles Storyworthy: Engage, Teach, Persuade, and Change Your Life Through the Power of Storytelling and Someday Is Today: 22 Simple, Actionable Ways to Propel Your Creative Life.
Matthew is a record 58-time Moth StorySLAM and 9-time GrandSLAM champion who has performed for audiences around the globe and had many stories featured on public radio. He teaches public speaking, storytelling, and marketing strategies to corporations, universities, politicians, advertising agencies, the clergy, and many more.

Carolyn Paine, actress, dancer, and comedian who has appeared in various TV shows and national commercials as well as regional and Off-Broadway theatre productions. Locally in CT, Carolyn is most known for "The Nutcracker Suite & Spicy" which she created, and for being a regular on "The Nose" with Colin McEnroe on WNPR.

Leland Brandt, a transplanted New Yorker who lives in West Hartford with his family. When he’s not puttering in the kitchen or playing online Scrabble, he is the owner of The Research Department, a boutique marketing firm he founded in 1999. He works with solopreneurs and small business owners to develop and maintain their websites and online visibility.
