Idaho Manufacturing Month Features Entrepreneurship and Innovation

U.S. Manufacturers will celebrate National MFG Day on Friday, October 7. MFG Day is the industry's biggest annual opportunity to inspire the next generation to consider careers in modern manufacturing. MFG Day features focused events around the nation to promote manufacturing to students, parents, and educators on the first Friday of October and continuing throughout the rest of the month.

The Coolest Thing Made in Idaho Contest
STARTS TODAY!

Idaho kicks off a month of manufacturing-related activities today, October 3 with the annual "Coolest Thing Made in Idaho" contest hosted by the Idaho Manufacturing Alliance. After choosing a cool, high tech anti drone product from Black Sage in 2020, voters followed their taste buds to Atomic Potatoe Chips in 2021. Where will voters land in 2022? You can nominate products from October 3-10 and vote for the winner from October 19-25. We will celebrate the winner on October 28.

Boise Entrepreneurship Week

MFG Month closes with a bang when we go "All In" during Boise Entrepreneurship Week (BEW), which runs October 24-28. BEW is a high-energy, community-powered event celebrating and building Idaho’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. TechHelp will participate in several BEW events, including Trailmix and the Youth Innovation Challenge. TechHelp and the studio\Blu consortium will participate in events and panels focusing on topics ranging from food startup pitches to hardware manufacturing to go-to-market strategies and the always popular Dodge Ball Tournament.

MFG Day Kicks Off a Month of Activities
Idaho Manufacturers Invited to Participate

MFG Day is the biggest annual opportunity for U.S. manufacturers to inspire the next generation to start careers in modern manufacturing.  A series of focused events to promote manufacturing begin on the first Friday of October and continue throughout the rest of the month. TechHelp submitted Boise Entrepreneur Week on Oct 24-28 as an Idaho MFG Day event since BEW plays a tremendous role in helping entrepreneurs launch new product ideas.

MFG Day asks Idaho manufacturers and educational institutions to show the reality of modern manufacturing careers by hosting an event and opening their doors to students, parents, teachers, and community leaders. As manufacturers seek to fill 4 million high-skill, high-tech, and high-paying jobs over the next decade, MFG Day empowers organizations to come together to address their collective challenges to help their communities and future generations thrive.

Iron Pine's Idaho Axe Makes the Cut

It's hard to think of a better way to celebrate Idaho innovation, entrepreneurism, and manufacturing than with an axe made in the shape of Idaho. Maria Lopez, CEO of Idaho’s Iron Pine LLC, is an inventor, entrepreneur, and manufacturer with an eye for detail and design. She noticed that the state of Idaho was shaped just like an axe; thin at the top and broad at the bottom.  The shape stuck with Maria, who leads a brand that celebrates Idaho life with unique modern designs inspired by the Idaho outdoors, history, culture, and art. An axe in the shape of Idaho looked like a branding bull’s eye to Maria.

In Maria's Words

"I'm always looking to make connections with students, so I was thrilled to work with the New Product Development Lab at Boise State. I was impressed with the speed and quality of the work done by the student employees."

Maria Lopez, CEO - Iron Pine LLC

Maria connected with the New Product Development Lab (NPD) at Boise State to see if she could bring her Idaho-shaped axe idea to life. Led by Lab Manager Grey Beaudry, the NPD team worked with the studio\Blu consortium across several fronts, including:

  • Product Design and Prototyping
  • Market Research
  • Packaging
  • Graphic Design
  • Supply Chain Issues
Maria went public with the new axe on June 19, 2022 at the Manly Man Father's Day Bash at the Western Collective in Garden City, Idaho. Attendees thought the axe was pretty cool. If you do too, you can nominate Maria's Idaho Axe for the Coolest Thing Made in Idaho contest starting today, October 3.
